Who we are looking for:
F&R is seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with VDOT transportation design experience to coordinate geotechnical services on transportation projects throughout Virginia. The candidate will work with geotechnical engineering staff located throughout our Virginia offices to complete project assignments. The position will also include collaborating with transportation-focused geotechnical engineering departments in other states. Project experience should include: bridges, roadways, pavement investigations and design, earth and rock slopes, and retaining and shoring structures. This position will require travel within Virginia. It is envisioned that this position will be based in Richmond, VA. However, alternate/remote office location will be considered.
What you’ll be doing:
Leading, developing and managing a group of geotechnical professionals focused on VA transportation projects.
Planning and coordinating subsurface exploration and geotechnical laboratory testing programs.
Performing and reviewing geotechnical engineering analysis, calculations and computer modeling.
Preparation of project work scopes, schedules, budgets and proposals.
Preparation and review of geotechnical engineering deliverables.
Managing projects from inception, including project schedules and budgets.
Overseeing, mentoring and providing guidance for support staff that may include other engineers, geologists, drill crews and subcontractors to ensure our goal of exceeding our clients’ expectations on every project.
Interacting with existing and potential clients, and working with business development staff.
Interacting with transportation-focused geotechnical engineering staff in other states, as projects dictate.
What you need to have:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
VA registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.).
At least 5 years of progressive geotechnical engineering experience including analysis and project management.
Knowledge of VDOT processes, geotechnical requirements, design considerations and deliverables.
Robust project and task management skills, including scheduling, execution and follow-up.
Ability to assess, develop and manage support staff.
Strong industry connections and business development skills.
Must be able to communicate effectively, internally and externally, and demonstrate the ability to produce and review technical analysis and deliverables.
Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
Minimal overnight travel will be required.
Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R’s pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record.
