This is a project management position charged with the engineering/design, estimating, planning, coordination of and oversight of large, complex inside and outside plant network construction/implementation projects. The responsibility of the position will include but will not be limited to: advanced engineering of all categories of telecommunication distribution cabling (Horizontal cabling, Riser cabling and Backbone cabling), the set-up all types of telecommunication spaces (Entrance Facilities, Telecommunication Rooms and outside plant maintenance vaults and pull points) and all types of communication pathways for both inside and outside plant. This position will be expected to provide specialized consultation on strategic planning for inside and outside plant cabling projects to meet long-term University goals. The specific types of cabling that this position will be expected to work with will be, but limited to, are: category cabling, fiber optic cabling and legacy phone cabling.
Additional Job Description:
Operations: Responsible for the engineering/design, estimating, planning, coordination of and oversight of both inside and outside plant portions of multi-sized telecommunication distribution cabling projects. This position will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of the project from project design to project build to infrastructure/asset maintenance. These projects can be associated with new or existing building construction or project construction on new or existing campus-wide cabling infrastructure.
(Operations...)This position will coordinate with stakeholders to develop project scope; acquisition of materials; oversight of both LSU and external resources to insure that all implementation / installation projects adhere to applicable codes, standards and LSU Network Construction Requirements.
(Operations...)This position will assist with maintaining the LSU Telecommunication Construction Specifications to insure that they remains consistent with the vision of the management team of the University Networking and Infrastructure department.
(...Operations): This position is also responsible for maintaining data records to track the physical layer assets (cabling, spaces, and pathways) of the IT network on the LSU main campus. (80%)
Training: Train, mentor and assign work to student employees. Assist student employees with their work and provide feedback in order to aid in development of their skills. (10%)

3 years of related experience
Network Project Engineer 2:
5 years of related experience
Desired Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Computer Science, or ISDS.
Related experience with oversight/management of network design and installation projects in a large, complex network environment. Proven ability to read and decipher architectural plans/drawings. Experience in the Architectural Plan Review.

With guidance, resolves problems and incidents while adhering to established procedures to deploy solutions. May receive guidance from Practitioner Project Engineers, Master Project Engineers and/or Managers. May actively oversee problem and incident resolution.

With guidance, develops campus wide physical network infrastructure designs.
With guidance, is responsible for the coordination of larger, more complex projects.
With guidance, provides high-level oversight of construction/renovation projects being managed by Network Project Coordinator roles.
Network Project Engineer 2:
Resolves higher level or more complex problems and incidents efficiently and independently.
Responsible for consistently developing a project plan that accounts for the scope of work, available resources (time and material), estimated costs and time of delivery for large/very large network projects.
Contributes to the creation of campus wide network infrastructure design standards and associated documentation.
Provides high/level oversight of construction/renovation projects being managed by Network Project Coordinator roles.
