The Product Engineer will be responsible for developing new products for applications and customers of Wabash Composites business including but not limited to composites engineered portable storage/shelters, systems & solutions, aerodynamic products, composite panels and custom solutions. This position will posse application domain knowledge and would leverage experience to develop and design new products & derivatives within the assigned category to support new and existing markets. Additionally, the Product Engineer will support & maintain current products to address continuous improvement in quality, reliability, cost and performance. This role will be required to work cross-functionally with other business areas including Sales, Marketing and Operations.
This position will also be accountable for project management and documentation with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in parallel to enable rapid development of new design concepts.
Incumbent will also provide proactive and collaborative technical leadership with ability to think creatively and successfully implement product development projects. Through experience and multiple successes in the Wabash Composites Group, this role has potential growth and rotation opportunities into areas of technical expertise, multiple product domains, program management, mentorship, team leadership or management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
New product development as well as current product maintenance/upgrade
Assists with 3rd party partnerships, suppliers and certifications
Develops and tests prototypes for new product ideas
Develops/Modifies product specifications
Develops quality designs and makes trade-offs based on data and solid engineering analysis
Effective utilization of design/analytical tools and discipline to design to customer Critical-to-Quality (CTQ’s) including CFD, DFMEA, DFSS, FEA modeling, DOE’s, DFA, DFM, etc.
Creates and maintains project development plans
Creates and executes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
Identifies and executes cost out projects to drive Value Added Value Engineering (VAVE)
Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Education Requirements: College Degree: Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology
Knowledge, Training, Skills and/or Experience:
3-5 years product engineering experience - product development, design and release
Experience working in an industrial, rapid response build-to-order business environment preferred
CAD proficiency (preferably in SolidWorks) - 2D drawings, 3D modeling and simulation, familiarity with MATLAB would be a plus
SAP familiarity a plus
Six Sigma background (preferably DFSS) preferred
