Are you an experienced engineer and project manager who wants to play a key role in implementing Oregon's innovative and exciting transportation initiatives in Region 1 ? As a resident engineer, you will be responsible for:
Directing all activities necessary in the development and delivery of outsourced transportation projects – including ongoing delivery of ODOT’s I-205 widening and seismic retrofit project and other large scale regional projects.
Administering contracts for design and/or construction of highly complex highways.
Working closely with local agency partners and other stakeholders to deliver projects that meet the multimodal needs of our Region.
Managing consultant engineering teams - ensuring design packages are delivered on schedule and within budget.
Identifying and managing project risk and ensuring project standards are met.
Using change management processes to obtain commitments, resolutions and agreements on critical project issues.

A day in the life:
Provide oversight of ODOT retained consultants who provide design, inspection, and contract administration. This may include:
Managing the design and/or construction of projects within scope, schedule and budget.
Ensuring compliance with design standards and standards specifications.
Providing field-engineering decisions required to construct the project.
Resolving contract disputes pertaining to scope, schedule, and budget.
Responsible for highly visible projects with tight time schedules and limited resources.
Long hours may be required, including some evenings.
May face politically sensitive or confrontational situations with members of the public, local officials and stakeholders.
Frequent work outside at project sites – may be exposed to traffic hazards, construction equipment, hazardous terrain and/or inclement weather.

What we need:
A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering and three (3) years of journey level professional engineer experience.
Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
Additionally, driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.
