Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer (Saskatoon, SK or Remote Canada)
Vecima is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer to participate in developing the next-generation data-over-cable and digital video products. The successful candidate will contribute to the design and development of Vecima’s products as part of an industry-leading team of technology leaders in the areas of test planning, developing environments and methods, executing tests and communicating observations. Be a key contributor to the development of next generation products used by some of the world’s largest Cable operators.
The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer will provide an engineering approach to test design and implementation, provide technical and practical leadership through mentorship of other test staff, and provide direction and guidance to other teams with a focus on ensuring a new product developments manufacturability. The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer, through their product knowledge, will apply the same engineering approach to sustaining engineering activities such as cost reduction and EOL mitigation.
Typical work involves reviewing technical requirements, identifying manufacturing failure modes and developing tests capable of capturing these failure modes with consideration being made for the sales volumes and product costs. The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer will participate in design reviews providing feedback on the manufacturability of different design choices. They will also develop product design requirements necessary to facilitate the manufacturing tests being implemented. During the production phase of a given product the Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer will drive sustaining engineering activities such as identifying cost reduction opportunities and seeing those through from the point of business case creation to the point of implementation.
This position is in Saskatoon, SK. Working remotely from a home-based office is an option with regular visits to the Saskatoon office. Occasional international travel may be required.
What You Bring to the Table:
Expertise in developing test philosophies and methodologies and using it to implement tests appropriate for the manufacturing of highly complex hardware products in volume cost, while effectively ensuring the highest level of product quality.
A level of engineering experience and knowledge that allows you to drive the manufacturing test development activities.
Capability of identifying and developing solutions to mitigate risks in both project and process development.
A strong understanding of developing manufacturing test strategies that balance test coverage, test setup expense, product quality and test time.
Strong ability to mentor and guide designers & developers with regards to “how to test”, “what to test” and “how much to test” etc.
Experience with the types of RF and/or Optical electronics found in Cable TV and telecommunications equipment as well as the tests used to verify this equipment in a manufacturing environment.
Education & Experience Requirements:
4-year bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent
Various educational backgrounds and experience will be considered but preference will be given to those with an engineering background in Electronics hardware.
8+ years of experience with telecommunications hardware/software development teams focused on manufacturing test design or test development, including:
Creation of test scenarios, procedures, and plans
Working within Agile and Scrum environments
Coaching team members on test matters
Troubleshooting software and hardware systems
Design for Manufacturability
Staying in tune with changes in test equipment, and how that equipment can bring value
Test automation through programming or scripting
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop test processes for new products from the point of failure analysis through to the point of delivery of completed, verified, and validated manufacturing test processes including all hardware, software and firmware needed to support those processes.
Participate in design reviews.
Provide feedback that will ensure a new product development manufacturability.
Develop product requirements and support the development of product features needed to facilitate the manufacturing tests being developed.
Support Sustaining Engineering functions such as cost reduction, EOL mitigation and root cause analysis of systemic failures.
