The Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure is recruiting for an energetic, highly motivated person, as a Rail Project Engineer within the Rail Policy, Regulation and Programs Unit, in Regina. Reporting to the Director of Rail Policy, Regulation and Programs, you will provide support and assistance to the Senior Rail Project Engineer in the implementation of the ministry’s railway safety programs.
As a Provincial Railway Inspector the incumbent will ensure compliance with The Railway Act of Saskatchewan by provincial railways. Under the direction and guidance of the Senior Rail Project Engineer, the incumbent will help guide provincial rail safety policies and will carry out inspection and audit programs to ensure safe railway operations. This position involves working on a wide range of railway development projects and will provide technical expertise to railway shippers, transportation stakeholders and railway operators.
Our candidate of choice will have a solid understanding of transportation infrastructure design, construction and operations and will have a desire to learn about railway infrastructure standards and operating rules. Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills are required as you will develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
The successful candidate will typically possess a university degree in Engineering and will be eligible for registration as an Engineer in Training or Professional Engineer in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS).
Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge and experience specifically related to railway infrastructure standards, railway equipment inspection/maintenance, railway operating rules, and/or development and implementation of railway safety management systems.
You must be willing to travel extensively throughout the province and work in a field environment.
