Reporting to the Business Intelligence Portfolio Manager, the Predictive Analytics Professional plays a key role working with the business to understand problems where data insights can make an impact and then sources internal and external data to be transformed into insights for business decision-making.
About the opportunity
The Predictive Analytics Professional role is distinguished from business and financial analysts in the company by having proficiency in working with large quantities of data (larger than a spreadsheet can handle) sourced from a database and applying quantitative methods to draw conclusions. The Predictive Analytics Professional role is distinguished from the Data Scientist role by a greater emphasis on consulting and presentation skills to enable productive interaction with business consumers of predictive analytics and lesser emphasis on advanced applied statistics, coding and model development. The Predictive Analytics Professional performs individual work assignments, participates in working groups and contributes to enterprise projects. This position requires a medium level of supervision delivering outcomes, a medium level of breadth/depth of job specific knowledge and a medium level of service delivery, professionalism, and communication.
This role is within the Business Intelligence Team at Les Schwab headquarters in Bend, OR.
Primary responsibilities/functions you are responsible for:
50% of your time will be spent performing the following-
Conduct data analysis:
Execute discovery processes of average to high complexity with stakeholders to define the business problem, understand IT/business constraints and opportunities. Understand the qualitative nature of data required to deliver results.
Collaborate with data engineers to Identify, source and query appropriate internal or external data needed for quantitative analysis such as internal data originating from point-of-sale, ERP and financial systems, websites, etc. and external data originating from weather stations, geo-location systems and government or social media sites.
Apply data cleansing techniques such as filtering, aggregating, deduplication, hashing, scaling and normalization, dimensionality reduction, fuzzy matching, imputation and cross-validation.
Design analyses to gain insight and test hypotheses using basic to advanced quantitative methods and graphing and visual methods.
Develop impactful presentations appropriate for executive consumption to communicate insights and rationale of recommendations in easy to understand terms; guide business stakeholders to validate insights and recommendations.
Work in an iterative agile manner to set expectations with stakeholders, present intermediate results and seek feedback.
30% of your time will be spent performing the following-
Conduct analytical quality assurance:
Verify analytical results and perform cross-checking using multiple methods to ensure consistency and quality of conclusions
Drive repeatability and reusability by thorough documentation and archival processes for developed analytical procedures
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend processes to help improve data quality
Seek out peer reviews and present results in group settings to assure best practices and approaches for analytics
Actively participate in peer reviews and feedback-sharing sessions and recommend approaches for analytics
10% of your time will be spent performing the following-
Conduct analytical data stewardship:
Develop relationships with business application teams to understand data sources and data collection processes
Develop relationships with business analysts and operational experts to understand business rules, data definitions and data maintenance procedures
Develop business cases and initiate recommendations for requirements for new data sources, data attributes and analytical products to improve business decision-making
5% of your time will be spent performing the following-
Stay current on predictive analytics best practices and technologies:
Help improve the organization’s understanding of the value of and methods for predictive analytics
Help improve understanding of related technologies and processes to accomplish data-driven business decision making
5% of your time will be spent performing the following-

Minimum Education & Skills Required:
Bachelor degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related field; or the demonstrated capacity for the required knowledge and skills
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant quantitative and qualitative research and analytics experience with solid knowledge of statistical techniques
Required Technical Skills/Knowledge:
A broad range of technical skills for acquiring new datasets, parsing datasets, filtering and organizing data, mining data for patterns, and representing data visually.
Adept at knowledge discovery and data inference and exploration.
Knowledge of statistics and predictive and prescriptive analytics approaches for business settings.
Experience with relational databases and non-relational structures.
Knowledge of data modeling and data organization concepts.
A minimum of four (4) years of experience running SQL queries on a regular basis in a business environment.
Knowledge of R, Python or advanced analytics platforms a plus.
Ability to make data-driven arguments and predict business impacts as part of business case development.
Knowledge of DEVOPS processes for agile development of analytical products and mini-applications.
