Dover Chemical Corporation, a subsidiary of ICC Industries, a leader for over 50 years in the international and domestic trading, manufacture, and marketing of chemicals, plastics, and pharmaceuticals has an opening for a Senior Project Engineer at its Dover, OH manufacturing facility. Dover Chemical Corporation is a leading producer of specialty chemicals used as plastic additives and also in metalworking and lubricant industries (alkylphenols, chlorinated paraffins, polymer additives, liquid and solid antioxidants (including organophosphites), flame retardants, additives for water-based and oil-based metalworking fluids and drilling fluid additives).
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for leading and executing major capital and expense projects to ensure proper design, procurement, construction, and commissioning. The role involves working with vendors, contractors, and internal resources in developing, controlling and executing a variety of major capital projects to improve capacity, reliability, and EHS performance. The Senior Project Engineer will oversee and direct the project contractors and track/maintain all costs of construction, installation, and materials. Will collaborate with EHS staff to ensure proper design and documentation for environmental and safety regulatory compliance. Furthermore, the Senior Project Engineer will support operations and maintenance personnel (both hourly and salary) in the troubleshooting of existing equipment and resolution of process problems.
B.S. Degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering,
10-15 years of major capital project management experience preferably in a chemical or oil/gas/refining setting with plant design, equipment procurement, and construction in both batch and continuous chemical operations or in a petrochemical plant
Will consider other manufacturing experience in the plastic, petrochemical, gas/oil, pharmaceuticals, pulp/paper, power/utilities, and/or paint coatings industry.
Thorough understanding of project management best practices, including FEL and stage-gating.
Upholds safety, health, environmental procedures, communicates directly and supports the EHS department to ensure OSHA and EPA compliance at all times during project planning and execution.
Partners with external contractors to execute major projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final documentation and closure.
Ensures that project contractors are receiving sufficient training/communication to ensure a “Safety
Ensures that appropriate project and process safety reviews are completed both before and after approval.
Generates, requests, and/or coordinates process and design engineering and design resources, whether internally from the Dover site or outside engineering, to prepare engineering design deliverables and to procure equipment, fabricated materials, and services.
Develops project scopes and timelines, generates and/or obtains cost estimates, and prepares appropriation funding requests.
Implements post-project reviews on completed projects to determine what improvements can be applied to future projects (Institutionalize “learning”).
Ensures all newly installed equipment has been properly registered into the company’s mechanical integrity and CMMS programs.
Closes projects and ensures proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory requirements.
Follows through to resolve any project disturbances and ensure Operations achieves a successful startup.
Participates and contributes on ad hoc assignments with other engineers to review, update, and develop project management procedures, guidelines, standards, and practices.
Thorough understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), and
Management of Change (MOC).
Must have generic competencies of analytical thinking, communication and interpersonal understanding, initiative, team work and team leadership, and quality orientation/attention to detail.
Computer skills a must with in depth knowledge of MS Word, MS Outlook, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint,
Visio, and Auto Cad.
Six sigma training preferred.
Albeit minimal, some travel is required
While generally working out of an office approximately 50% of the time, in order to perform the essential job functions of this position, the incumbent must have mobility to move around the factory/equipment, wear proper PPE, and can potentially be exposed to hazardous chemicals, wet or humid conditions, outdoor weather, noisy and sometimes dusty environment.
Requires the ability to perform physical activities that may occasionally require climbing stairs/ladders to examine work that may be conducted in high, precarious elevations; moving your whole body with considerable use of arms and legs, such as reaching, bending, twisting, standing, climbing, balancing, walking, stooping; lifting or moving up to 10 pounds routinely and and/or moving up to 50 pounds occasionally.
