Information Developer II, Visual
Purpose of Position:
The primary role of this position is to create accurate and applicable end-user information that helps to enhance the customer experience with our products. The Information Developer II, Visual works with cross-functional and global product development teams to develop and create new or update existing technical documentation that meets our customer needs (manuals, instruction sheets, online help, quick start guides, etc.). The Information Developer II, Visual obtains necessary information for new content by learning and using the product and through usability testing, working with subject matter experts and by reading and interpreting input packages from the product development team and other information developers. We expect this person to plan for and use content management principles and follow company standards for information development.
Creates structured content to produce end-user installation, operation and maintenance manuals, user instructions, quick start/quick reference guides, analytical procedures and online help. Applies reuse strategies and modular writing design to single-source content to our customers as different media (web, print).
Develops content that can be delivered globally and into 27+ languages. Has a general understanding and continued learning of how to develop information for localization which includes using Simplified Technical English rules and guidelines, Global Visual Design Standards and Localization Best Practices.
Develops knowledge in the preparation of complex and creative visual representations of difficult customer tasks, concepts and reference materials.
Create icons and symbols that support written content, Graphical User Interfaces and industrial design.
Creates visuals that support the text in documentation.
Obtains, defines, and interprets information and works directly with cross-functional, global product development teams (Product Management, Project Management, R&D, etc.) and customer feedback to assist in the development of end-user documentation packages. Information is obtained by product knowledge transfer, interviews, usability testing, daily management meetings and email/phone communication.
Recognizes and demonstrates improvements to the quality of documentation based on feedback from internal and external customers by soliciting feedback and testing documentation for usability, accuracy and validity.
Updates unstructured FrameMaker legacy documentation and converts unstructured books to structured topics and maps.
Manages own daily work, project assignments and on-time delivery of output deliverables.
Effective verbal-communicator. Participates in project team meetings and provides timelines to deliver assigned tasks.
Prepares documentation for final production (print, online, and translation management) and visually inspecting and proofing final delivery PDF files before and after delivery to print vendor or data duplicator. Education, Background and Skill Requirements:
A BA/BS with 3 years of experience or at least 10 years experience creating technical drawings for technical publication documentation.
Experience in pre-press production and printing is beneficial.
Capability in drafting or engineering documentation is necessary.
Ability to turn complex, technical concepts into easy to use illustrations
Skilled in the use of CorelDesigner, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat Suite. Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel (specifically with formatting charts and graphs). Knowledge of Frame Maker is beneficial.
Experience in the use of Solid Works (or comparable level CAD systems). Ability to manipulate solid models and/or 3D images.
Create complex isometric assembly drawings from scratch using CAD or by scaling the actual parts.
Experience in the use of DITA – XML and content management system knowledge.
Ability to disassemble and reassemble instruments to create installation and maintenance information.
Having worked with electro-mechanical instruments, electrical wiring basics, and knowledge of clean water and wastewater applications and laboratory practices would be beneficial.
Experience with Change Management and Engineering Change Orders.
Knowledge of ANSI and ISO standards related to end-user documentation and safety-related information.
Experience with GIF animation is a plus.
