The Packaging Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for product-related issues associated with sustaining engineering of current products packaging. Responsibilities include, detailed data analysis of manufacturing efficiency, process development, change management leadership, cost oversight, service, and point of contact in interfacing with various contributing organizations, Contract Manufacturers, Vendors, Suppliers and Supply Chain, Management, R&D, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Operations Engineering.

Education Required:
Bachelor's Degree Required
BS Engineering or Equivalent

Minimum Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 1 years of experience

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads or supports initiatives in all product manufacturing aspects: Capacity Expansion, Cost reduction, quality improvement, Service/Repair, Process Improvement, Documentation.
  • Develops and implements programs, software, hardware, and other tools to improve manufacturing processes and data collection
  • Develops sound understanding of product designs and focuses on ways to improve manufacturing processes as well as identify and implement cost reductions.
  • Provides Design for Manufacturability guidance to R&D Engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Gathers and analyzes manufacturing metrics and works closely with Quality organization to define appropriate process changes.
  • Uses statistical techniques to compile and analyze data and realize appropriate improvement initiatives.
  • Works closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality to coordinate product changes.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Designs manufacturing processes, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling.
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout.
  • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance.
  • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions.
  • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan.
  • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques.
  • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Usual office environment with frequent* sitting, walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, balancing, stooping and occasional* climbing.

Frequent* use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling use of office machinery.

Oral and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication as well as communication through automated devices such as the telephone.

Light physical effort required by handling objects up to 20 pounds occasionally* and/or up to 10 pounds frequently.

Nice to Have

Degree in Mechanical or Packaging Engineering or related field.

Knowledge and application of industry standards and regulatory requirements (including but not limited to: ISO 13485, ISO 14971, MDD 93/42 EEC, PAL, CMDR, and 21 CFR Part 820). Is able to implement systems that drive compliance with all requirements. Assists others in the organization with understanding the requirements and determining how it impacts them.
  • Extensive knowledge of Geometric Tolerance and Dimensions (GD&T)
  • Ability to transfer technical expertise by teaching, developing and mentoring Medtronic employees and supplier personnel.
