This posting is to fill one position at either the Engineer 1 Graduate or Engineer 2 Graduate level.
As an Industrial Wastewater Engineer, the position will implement NPDES/SDS permitting activities to ensure compliance of industrial wastewater dischargers with federal and state environmental regulations. The position will manage NPDES/SDS permit issuances for assigned industrial wastewater treatment facilities. This work includes development and coordination of permitting project schedules, determination of appropriate effluent limitations and permit requirements, technical evaluation of treatment proposals, drafting permits and associated documents, communication with permittees and interested parties, and participating in meetings and hearings. The position will also provide technical review of engineering products associated with permits and enforcement cases to ensure compliance with permit requirements and will interpret existing program policies and assist in the development of new policies.
Engineer 1 Graduate Candidate:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or similar engineering field with an environmental emphasis from an accredited engineering college.
Engineer 2 Graduate Candidate:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental Engineering or similar engineering field with an environmental emphasis from an accredited engineering college AND 18 months of engineering experience.
Candidates must have good communication and writing skills, effective human relations skills to work with clientele and staff; problem solving skills for resolving technical matters; ability to bring projects to conclusion. Capable of gaining competency in environmental regulatory processes and procedures.
Basic computer skills, proficient in WORD and familiar with EXCEL.
Knowledge of engineering principals associated with technical and engineering review of planning, design and construction, permitting, compliance evaluation and enforcement of applicable rules.
Knowledge of state and federal statutes and rules related to industrial wastewater treatment facilities.
Computer skills sufficient to use and learn databases (i.e. agency's enterprise database).
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with representatives of government agencies and the public.
Ability to independently work in the field, conduct inspections/investigations in adverse weather conditions and in a variety of settings at solid waste facilities. Ability to carry more than 20 pounds (monitoring equipment, file boxes). Must have the ability to conduct inspections that may involve climbing and/or stepping over obstacles.
This position requires successful completion of the following:
A driver’s license is an essential function of this position. This requires possession of an unrestricted Class D Driver’s License. The job offer is contingent on confirmation of a valid driver’s license AND a satisfactory DLR check.
Requires a Class D Driver's License: a single unit vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of less than 26,000 pounds. This is a basic driver's license. Operators may also tow vehicles/trailer as long as the gross combination weight does not exceed 26,000 pounds.
