Join our newly formed Data Office as the full-time Kafka Administrator and work with cutting edge technologies as we continue to grow in our data space. You will be responsible for the administration of our Kafka streaming platform. As a part of the larger administration team you will also be on a rotating on-call team to support other platforms.
You will also provide engineering guidance of technology solutions that deliver business value across the organization, continuously improving time to market. Create road maps that translate business requirements into technology solutions. Specify IT hardware and software plans and develop implementation roadmaps. Ensure compliance of application and technical infrastructure development with company and industry standards. Influence future systems engineering. Assesses emerging technologies for application to Thrivent’s initiatives and provides technical expertise for next generation initiatives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Implementing, managing and administering the overall Kafka infrastructure.
Monitor Kafka cluster connectivity and security.
Manage and review Kafka log files.
Collaborating with application teams (data scientists/engineers) to install operating system and Kafka updates, patches, and version upgrades when required.
Point of Contact for Vendor escalation.
User security management of the Kafka cluster.
Implement security standards for the cluster and Kafka services such as TLS for wire encryption.
Support of Kafka integrations, including topics, producers, consumers, Schema Registry, Kafka Control Center, KSQL, and streaming applications.
Monitor performance, identify bottlenecks and tune to optimize Kafka performance and throughput.
Takes care of the day-to-day running of Kafka clusters.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in MIS, Computer Science or related field.
3+ years of experience in architecture development.
Understanding of the Kafka components and zookeeper.
In-depth knowledge of systems design, architecting and implementing large business systems.
Strong Linux knowledge (Red Hat Enterprise).
Knowledge of configuration management tools such as ansible.
Good understanding of Streaming message delivery semantics.
Basics of networking, CPU, memory and storage.
Knowledge and understanding of Kerberos & active directory KDC.
Strong organizational, analytical and critical thinking skills.
