Your new responsibilities
Evaluates package structural designs according to the nature of the product, cost limitations, legal requirements, and the type of protection required. Evaluates, prioritizes and applies innovative solutions/ new technologies and materials in the design of packaging to deliver a consumer benefit, enhance profit margin, and/or reduce the environmental impact of our packaging. Understands and is knowledgeable of laboratory activities and tests, using scientific systems/tools, to assess technical feasibility in the qualification of materials/structures, co- packers, and suppliers
Drives best-in-class packaging designs, standards and specifications. Develops and shares best practices related to packaging structure and system development across all Fluence products
Support technical activities related to new and existing product packaging, process optimization, process and equipment troubleshooting, and process validation
Set specifications for bulk unit and single pack dimensions related to slat fit/size to ensure consistent fit and operations
Help establish and/or refine Packaging Engineering Work Instructions for critical packaging processes.
Drive and identify cost / margin improvement projects through the optimization of primary and secondary package design / re-design. Report cost savings initiatives on packaging related projects.
Perform quantitative and qualitative analyses to support continuous improvement programs in the manufacturing processes through the redesign of packaging components.
Manage assigned workload through effective time management, planning, and coordination of projects to assure required deadlines are met.
Manage, analyze and identify trends in packaging operations data
Support activities relating to change of processes, components and raw materials utilizing Engineering Change Order procedures
Support investigations relating to packaging issues, product release performance, and/or customer complaints
Identify packaging projects to improve yield, lower costs and improve efficiency
Participate in project teams to execute project goals and assignments
Support internal and external auditors and regulatory agencies as needed during inspections
Analyze and improve material and personnel flow paths in the packaging areas of the current facility to optimize start-up time and effort
Maximize the success rate for packaging operations by instituting programs to minimize human error, mechanical failure, contaminations, and procedural error(s)
Manage the implementation and ongoing support of bar-coding operations required for all packaging lines.. inbound and outbound
Support strategic plans for process and plant improvements in order to increase efficiency and manage costs thru out a global supply chain
Create packaging drawings for existing processes based on specifications and standards
Responsible for trouble shooting and providing corrective action directives
Maintain a safety-first approach to packaging development and manufacturing
What we look for
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or Related degree Preferred Experience/Qualifications
- 10+ years of Packaging Engineering experience
- Demonstrated accomplishments and working knowledge in Packaging Engineering preferably within the Consumer Products industry
- Advanced knowledge of packaging development/processes/systems/Document control, as well as operations/supply chain processes
Proficient using scientific principles to develop or optimize packaging processes
Understanding of engineering fundamentals, Costs and productivity metrics for continual improvement.
ISO 9000 working knowledge a benefit
Technical knowledge of packaging equipment and supporting utilities
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Ability to communicate in a proactive and solutions-focused manner, including keeping management aware of potential issues
Basic computer knowledge, including Microsoft Word and Excel
Communicate effectively with ability to function in a team environment
Ability to effectively organize, multitask, and work in a fast-paced, deadline driven work environment driven by economic business decision making
