As a Civil Engineer at C2AE you will apply a general knowledge of the physical sciences and mathematics underlying engineering and specialized knowledge of the mechanics of solids (particularly of soils), hydraulics, theory of structure, strength of materials, engineering geology and surveying.
Civil Engineering Design (90%)
Assist in the performance of planning, designing, constructing and/or maintaining structures and facilities that provide shelter, support transportation systems and control natural resources; investigate, measure, survey and map the earth’s physical features and phenomena; and/or research and develop activities pertaining to the above. Evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making some substantial engineering adaptations and modifications to assigned aspects of storm drain, sanitary sewer, water system and/or lake-level construction and alteration plans.
Assist in the planning, designing, monitoring and/or managing of projects and programs for substantial new construction, renovation and improvement projects for real property facilities encompassing highly specialized or unique requirements. Assist in serving as a technical consultant concerning facilities planning, design, construction and/or maintenance for different categories of facilities, and utilize program planning and budgeting cycles, financial control and budget systems, and other management tools to accomplish programming, determine resources and perform long-range planning.
Be alert to safety hazards in the field. Review consultant-prepared design drawings, indicating basic design corrections, prepare technical specifications, review engineering plans for compliance with numerous regulatory acts. Assist in the evaluation of contract bids, make recommendations to higher-level engineers regarding feasibility studies and assist in the management of large-scale construction projects. Use construction inspection report data to prepare payment estimates as a recommendation for payment of contractors.
Participate in team meetings, all staff meetings, and other planning sessions.
Participate in training and development activities as needed and directed by supervisor.
Perform administrative tasks including, but not limited to, time sheet completion, expense reports, completing correspondence, etc.
Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of construction processes, procedures, documentation, and delivery methods. Experience in the production of bidding/construction drawings in Revit. Experience in the production of architectural specifications
Communication: Collaborative approach, working with contractors, agency reviewers/inspectors, architects, interior designers, engineers, and client. Effective oral and written communication skills - ability to clearly and simply explain technical information to contractors, agency reviewers/inspectors, project team, and clients.
Problem Solving: Ability to identify problems, determine possible solutions and actively work to resolve the issues
Bachelor of Science from an accredited university, required
0-5 years of experience in civil engineering design, required
Experience in wastewater, preferred
Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time
Physical dexterity and ability to negotiate around a crowded and busy working office area, and around a crowded and busy working area, including construction sites
