The incumbent performs highly-skilled maintenance, installation, repair and troubleshooting work involved with electrical systems. Electrical work may be performed in a number of areas in the facility including heating, refrigeration, motors, fire alarms, electrical panels, electrical control room, and fish processing equipment. Work involves technical application of electrical principles. Responsible for electrical maintenance of plant power issues, distribution, cords, plugs, motors, compressors, etc.
Installs, services and repairs lighting fixtures, electrical panels, outlets and wiring;
Operates, power hand tools and other specialized electrical equipment;
Installs, repairs, and services specialized electrical equipment and machinery;
Reads electrical circuit diagrams;
Installs conductors, splices cable, builds terminations and does necessary hook-up for primary power lines;
Lays underground conduit for electrical lines and installs low voltage electric lines and conduits for telephone systems;
Maintains a list of assigned and self-generated tasks in the form of a written “To Do” list;
Assists Controls Electrician as needed;
May travel to other plant locations outside Sitka for electrical issues that may arise;
Performs other related duties as assigned;
Properly stores uninstalled material, and work-in-progress materials from weather, vandals, pilferage, or other deleterious causes.
Maintains good housekeeping practices.
Take necessary steps to keep all dust and dirt under control as much possible. Broom-clean the job site and remove trash appropriately. Supervise cleaning services when applicable. Protect the surrounding environment from runoff, fugitive dust, and other pollution from job site. Recycle where possible.
Conduct regular safety meetings on topic assigned by Plant Manager
Uphold and support company rules and policies.
Works in a safe manner and takes action to correct or report safety hazards
Other duties as assigned
Extensive knowledge of electrical systems, safety, national electrical code, and lockout/tag out.
Proficient at electrical blueprint reading and electrical circuit diagrams.
Able to perform electrical maintenance work including plant power issues, distribution, cords, plugs, motors, compressors, etc. and minor installations including running wires and running conduits.
Required Skills and Abilities:
Ability to communicate with engineers, maintenance employees, and subcontractors.
Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material estimates, interpret electrical specifications, and implement work orders.
Job requires that alternative solutions be quickly generated to resolve plant power issues including wiring, equipment installation, etc.
Interpersonal and Communications Skills:
Able to understand and communicate with Head Electrician, maintenance workers, and interns.
Adept at establishing relationships with all parties involved in the engineering process that facilitate harmonious working relationships during project, and permit prompt resolution of problems and conflicts as they occur.
Able to organize scheduling and progress of tasks assigned by Head Electrician/and or Plant Engineer.
Able to quickly identify potential schedule conflicts and generate and implement needed modifications.
Able to complete and fulfill paperwork required for material orders, and time sheets.
Able to keep job sites clean and orderly
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
95% of the time are spent in plant premises where dust, debris, water, fish waste may be present;
Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of the plant. Specifically, the ability to work with tools, electrical wiring and materials. Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to 75 lbs., and to bend, climb, crawl and stand.
At least 2 years’ experience in electrical work
Must possess valid electrician’s license
Current Driver License
Employee housing is located 3/10 of a mile from the facility, therefore employees must be able to commute unassisted to and from the company bunkhouses.
The employee needs the ability to multitask in a high demand environment within the facility. Focus and concentration are required for the maintenance and troubleshooting of mechanical equipment related to marine skiffs and equipment. The employee needs to regularly demonstrate attention to detail when maintaining all marine engines. In addition, the incumbent must possess a keen sense of the importance of punctuality for a variety of designated tasks by demonstrating a sound work ethic. The employee has an eagerness to teach and learn and the desire to do quality work.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
The Skiff Mechanic position requires driven machinery certifications such as a forklift, expeditor truck, Zoom Boom or flatbed truck which in turn requires a valid driver’s license.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and extreme cold. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
