The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Design Support Engineer in Cheyenne, Wyoming. As a Design Support Engineer, you will be responsible for performing various duties under limited supervision to provide a safe, high quality, and efficient transportation system.
Supervises the Project Development Design Support Squad, managing critical activities related to the department's design software and contract document quality review processes essential to the safety improvements on the state transportation system.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
Directs specialized and standardized design software programming/configuration and Visual Basic for Applications programming, including new design tools and standards.
Oversight and implementation of standardized design procedures using the department's design software.
Communicate and collaborate with the design software developer and department personnel to improve the overall agency design and construction administration processes.
Development of design procedures and documentation and provides training related to the department's design software.
Directs and advances the Value Engineering program activities and functions.
Oversight of the checking squad plan reviews and PS&E package development activities.
Supervise and train personnel.
Participation on various committees.
Work under pressure to minimize production delays.
Knowledge and application of highway engineering design standards and policies.
Knowledge of computer-aided highway design practices and procedures.
Knowledge of computers, plotters, servers, and networks.
Principles, concepts, and current government management practices, including budget development and control, personnel management, administrative prerogatives, and responsibilities.
Skills in administration, supervision and work management, interpersonal communications, conflict resolutions, implementation of management methods and techniques, negotiations, and decision making.
Skills in writing, evaluation, interpretation, and application of procedures and training documentation.
Skill in time management and multi-tasking.
Skill in public speaking and telephone etiquette.
Ability to work with and train various department and consultant personnel.
Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering)
2-4 years of progressive work experience (in Engineering) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Project Engineer
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Professional Engineer's (PE) License Required at time of hire - (Wyoming PE required within six months of hire date.)
