AECOM is actively seeking a creative and highly motivated Surface Water Engineer II for employment in the Glenwood Springs, Colorado office (West Colorado) to support an array of water resources projects including floodplain mapping, surface water modeling and drainage design.
AECOM is searching for candidates that have the ability to be a role model, be client-focused, be impactful, and be decisive. Candidates can expect a diverse set of assignments primarily focused on flood risk analysis. There will also be opportunities to work with staff experienced in roadway design, mine drainage, stream health, and more.
The position will involve working on projects for local municipalities, federal agencies, and private clients to conduct hydrologic & hydraulic modeling and drainage design. Work will include flood risk analysis an drainage design in support of floodplain mapping, roadway design, mining, stream health and more.
Skills for this position include the following:
- Performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced engineer.
- Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
- Works on detailed or routine engineering assignments involving calculations and relatively simple tests.
- Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered.
- Identifies discrepancies in results.
- Provides guidance to entry level engineers.
- Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule with moderate supervision.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
+ Build analytic and design skills by performing assignments requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria to carry out engineering tasks. Assignments are designed to further develop judgment and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities.
+ Conduct engineering design/analysis using spreadsheets and programming tools under the supervision of an experienced engineer.
+ Create designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the supervision of an experienced engineer using programs such as ArcGIS, AutoCAD and Microstation.
+ Use computer software such as HEC-RAS and StormCAD as a tool for solving basic engineering problems.
+ Performs work in accordance with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
+ Develop reporting and documentation skills to include using visualizations for coordination with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
+ BA/BS + 2 YORE or AA/AS (US) + 4 YORE or Diploma/Certificate (Canada) + 4 YORE or HS/GED + 6 YORE
+ Master's degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in water resources, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, or other related field required
+ Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in water resources, hydrology, hydraulic engineering, or other related field required
+ Have passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or ability to pass within one year of employment
+ 1+ years of relevant experience
+ Capable of using spreadsheet, word processing and standard office software
+ Fundamental understanding of hydrology and hydraulics
+ Ownership and accountability for quality deliverables
+ Ability to be flexible and have self-initiative
+ Ability to work on multiple projects and manage time appropriately
