As a member of the Application Development Services team, the Application Developer analyzes business requirements to design, develop, test, and deploy websites, web applications, underlying database structures, and ETL processes to support various custom systems and third-party software integrations.
This position is responsible for application development supporting a wide variety of units, including but not limited to Housing, Recreational Sports, Student Activities, Campus Dining and the student ID card; custom administrative and accounting systems for the umbrella organization (e.g. budget planning, reconciliation); and integration in support of third-party software both locally hosted and in the cloud (e.g. judicial case management tools, career management products). Application Development Services is part of the 70-member Student Life Technology Services (SLTS) organization providing a full array of information technology services to the 40+ departments within the Office of Student Life. Other members of Application Development Services are full-stack web and application developers who create web-based software; manage integrations with third-party software platforms; and build custom reports. Key relationships for this position will include senior members of Application Development Services, Managed Hosting Services, project managers, and quality assurance specialists.
This position will be responsible for the following objectives:
1. Familiarize with Application Development Services development environments, source control, database organization, web services processes, design and brand guidelines
2. Familiarize with SLTS incident management, project management, change management, and release management processes.
3. Collaborate with Service Portfolio Management to develop, support and enhance existing web-based systems, integrations, and reports.
The successful candidate for this position will have demonstrated success in several areas, including:
1. Lead successful application development efforts with autonomy
2. Displays knowledge of computer science fundamentals
3. Worked within traditional application development methodologies (waterfall and/or agile)

At least five years of experience in a Multi-Tier development environment; at least one year of experience with MS SQL Server Reporting Services (or equivalent); at least one year of experience with MS SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS); at least five years of experience designing and developing complex system integrations in a multi-tier environment; at least one year of experience with web service technologies and standards, specifically SOAP/REST, XML/JSON, WSDL and transfer protocols (http/s, s/ftp, etc); at least one year of experience developing and implementing solutions on a cloud platform such as Amazon Web Services; knowledge of application security; knowledge of interface accessibility; strong interpersonal skills including team collaboration, verbal and written communication skills.
