Sr. Project Engineer

The Project Engineer job is accountable for capital planning, requirement development, early engineering, project management and implementation/post-implementation support for new equipment installations and existing equipment improvements in a CPG environment where product and people safety are top priorities. Depending on the project, this position will act as a project manager or SME and is accountable for performing all engineering activities in a fast-paced, high-growth entrepreneurial environment. Role is accountable for developing annual and master capital plans in alignment with long-term business objectives and capacity needs.
The Project Engineer must drive effective communication to all team members including, but not limited to; contractors, consultants, vendors and the project stakeholders in an effort to coordinate all aspects of the project and input at all phases of development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand business needs and long-term plans.
Partner in idea and concept development, followed by detailed requirements gathering to ensure problems/needs are understood prior to solution development.
Provide project and equipment solutions for assigned projects.
Develop estimates and quotations.
Develop existing and new vendor and contractor relationships.
Develop RFP for assigned projects and actively partner in vendor selection and contract design to ensure appropriate risk management.
Manage stakeholder input and rigor of project management consistent with phase of development/contingency requirements.
Develop Capital Appropriation Requests aligned with the annual CAPEX Budget and leverage internal software for development, routing, approval and expenditure tracking.
Oversee the design and development of equipment, develop and maintain Bill of Materials and coordinate engineering deliverables by vendor.
Establish and maintain reports for all (re)designs of implementation/schedules/budgets.
Prepare and maintain drawings for manufacturing, assembly and installation of equipment.
Develops, leads, and implements equipment qualifications, installation activities such as FAT’s, SAT’s, IQ’s, OQ’s, PQ’s and other process specifications as required. Requires technical writing skills for reports of packaging process and equipment design activities, test data, and other pertinent information for each project.
Work within established engineering policies/procedures and maintain quality of work in accordance to internal standards.
Travel to Vendors or Represent company at Trade Organizations as required.
Requisition or purchase all essential parts and equipment.
Manage or perform Field personnel supervision for work performed at the plants.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The following list that follows is representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:
- High speed packaging experience, including a deep understanding of packaging equipment wrapping, cartoning, case packaging and palletizing in a range of applications required
Experience in packaging material design for performance/sustainability preferred
Processing equipment experience in mixing, bulk dry/liquid ingredient systems, extrusion and baking preferred
HVAC and cooling experience preferred
Demonstrated history of project management for relevant size/scope projects, PMP preferred
Working knowledge of servo motors and drives, cameras, sensors, programmable logic controls (PLC), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) and other related components.
Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to work with all levels of the organization.
Solid facilitation skills, problem solving and influence management.
Strong leadership and organizational skills to coordinate multiple projects and lead change
Self-motivated individual capable of identifying operational issues and making rapid change to improve efficiency in an ever-changing environment
Internet Software and the Microsoft Office Platform:
Word, Excel, Project and Outlook
Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
Fully proficient in AutoCAD, prefer SolidWorks as well

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Packaging Engineering required.
5-7 years in an engineering role within a consumer products environment, preferably food, pharma or nutraceutical.
This position has supervisory responsibilities.
Coach, mentor, motivate, and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
Ability to defuse tension among project team, should it arise.
Provide guidance and direction to project team to assist them in their professional development.
Develop and maintain an effective project team through the selection, training, and review of project team
Ability to work in a food-manufacturing/food distribution environment
