Acts as a liaison between test lab and product engineering to ensure timely completion of required testing whether through internal testing or outsourcing testing. Works with Engineering to create and maintain product DVPs and Sample Requests. Interacts with product engineers on equipment needs, and sampling. Can specify and/or build machinery, fixturing, and controls required to complete testing in a manner that meets the product teams needs. Expected to identify opportunities for and create and validate new test methods
Major Duties & Responsibilities
Writing and/or Verifying test requests for correctness prior to submission to lab, working with engineering tio create and then recording results in DVPs. Organizing test samples and equipment to facilitate fatser more efficient testing.
Attends product team meetings to identify test needs. Provides cost estimates to teams. Sought by product teams to design ES specifications and/or recommend . Writes TLPs. Determines materials/mechanisms for test equipment. 1st level lab contact for test/product issues that need resolution
Identifies opportunities for and conducts R&R studies on lab test procedures, equipment, and personnel. Thorough understanding of gauge accuracy and uncertainty budgeting in ISO 17025.
Understands and can implement statistical sampling. Can be a team member on DOE and can create and run DOE. Six Sigma Black/green belt or CRE training. Able to help team with statistical principles and methods with a strong emphasis on reliability/confidence levels and sampling.
Able to run cost analysis between in house and outsource testing. Able to identify equipment opportunities based on in house vs. outside testing. Uses Attwood purchasing and corporate card to purchase samples, equipment, gauges, etc.… to keep tests on track.
Helps write / maintain quality manual for lab. Assist with lab assessments
Able to identify tests that require field analysis and/or collect warranty data for analysis by the product teams.
Will occasionally travel to customers or vendors to benchmark test applications/opportunities on behalf of Attwood, up to 15% travel.
Education & Experience
Bachelors in Engineering Discipline Preferred, relevant experience may be considered with technical training/certification(s)
2+ years lab experience required
Additional Skills Required
Proficient in critical thinking and analytical problem solving
Able to use Six Sigma principles
Able to lead product teams through a problem solving process
Must communicate visually through presentations, documents, sketches and rendering
Must have excellent verbal communication skills to enable effective presentations and discussions with customers, internal functional groups, team members and management.
