The R&D Engineer II will join our PPG Filtration Technologies business as part of our Specialty Coatings and Materials Strategic Business Unit! This is a tremendous opportunity for the right person to become part of an exciting, growing business within the PPG family. The successful candidate will have chemical engineering or materials science background and experience in the membrane or filter industry. This role will have extensive input into the design and application of spiral wound and/or pleated filters or filtration systems. This person will work in both our research lab environment in Monroeville, PA (suburb of Pittsburgh, PA) and at customer locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate new filter designs/concepts and assess impact on filtration system performance.
Evaluate membrane technologies for a given application.
Utilize material science approach make innovative improvement to technologies.
Benchmark performance of competitive filtration products, including both spiral wound and pleated filter systems.
Fulfill technical deliveries in a variety of filter application segments and ensure technical deliverables are aligned with filtration business priorities.
Conceptualize, evaluate and optimize filtration system designs that better utilize the high flux capacity of PPG membrane and filters. Pursue IP protection where appropriate.
Characterize filter lifetime within new system designs and work with marketing to translate into a strong value proposition.
Advise customers on prototype system designs to achieve sales of filtration products over a variety of different applications. - Direct activities of technicians.
Qualifications:
BS/MS/PhD in materials science or chemical engineering
2-5 years’ experience in the filtration industry with experience designing filtration systems or membrane technologies
Up to 25% travel may be required
