Summary/Purpose of Position
The Design Engineer is responsible for providing design engineering technical leadership on cross-functional product development teams during the pre-concept, development, design and documentation for manufacture of new and improved disposable surgical devices, surgical implants or related medical products.
Provide CAD/Design manufacturing engineering support in the development of medical devices.
Responsible for developing new product and tooling designs in a cross-functional team environment requiring an ability to design and develop innovative solutions that address design for manufacturing needs by overcoming mechanical, materials and manufacturing process design challenges.
Technical leadership that performs mechanical engineering design related tasks such as Parametric 3D Solid Modeling, FEA, Tolerance Analysis, design of experiments, design layout and prototype construction.
Create equipment, tool and fixture designs from concept to finished documentation.
Design complex tooling, jigs and fixtures utilizing the principles of mechanical design, methodologies for tool fabrication and requirements for production use.
Work closely with other designers, engineers, machinists and production personnel to execute the fabrication and debugging of the designs.
Check completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformance to standards, accuracy of calculations and proper dimensioning and tolerancing.

BS engineering degree with 3-5 years or MS engineering degree with 2+ years (preferably Mechanical Engineering), of design-related experience required (preferably in the development of complex mechanical systems working in a team base environment).
Knowledge of general design engineering and DFMA principles, component manufacturing processes, tooling methodologies, material properties, and regulatory compliance required.
Experience with CAD/CAM (Solidworks) and design analysis software (mechanisms and FEA), statistical analysis techniques, and geometric dimensioning and tolerance required.
Experience designing disposable and re-usable Medical devices.
Broad knowledge and use of medical disposable or implantable devices.
Knowledge of GMP’s, ISO12485 Quality Systems.
Ability to prioritize and multi task.
Good verbal and written communication with all levels of technical and operating management
