The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking a Technical Operations Technician in Casper, Wyoming to perform and assist the District Electrical Foreman with installation and maintenance of all electrical and electronic devices within the district on all highway and road systems, including rest areas.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

Ensures the motoring public that all traffic signals are operating correctly by troubleshooting, repairing damage, vehicle damage to signals, and repairing lights that are out.
Assists with annual inspections on traffic signals.
Works on all areas of lighting, including components and fixtures, ballasts, light poles, bases and inspection of installations done by outside contractors.
Conducts annual inspections on all roadway lighting.
Maintains, programs and inspects flashing beacons for school zones, road closed systems, warning signs and stop signs. Conducts annual inspections on these systems to ensure proper operation.
Performs utility locates when requested by the One Call system, including after hours.
Ensures correct installations are used from the approved list of materials and that the installations meet specs.
Operates and sets-up portable digital message signs and portable traffic signals when required.
Be on-call to respond, if necessary, to traffic signal or lighting problems that arise on nights, weekends and holidays.


**Agency requires that the successful applicant have a clean MVR and Class A Commercial Driver's License within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge of basic hand tool use.
Knowledge of troubleshooting electrical or electronic devices.
Knowledge of basic first-aid and CPR training.
Skill in use of computers.
Ability to read and use a digital multi-meter.
Ability to perform job in a safe manner.

Associate's Degree

0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations


Education & Experience Substitution:
2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Technical Operations)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Necessary Special Requirements

Safely and confidently perform repairs of faulty electric or electronic equipment at levels up to 40' working height in a bucket truck.
May be required to conduct repairs 24/7 in all weather conditions and during high-traffic volume situations.
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
