Purpose of Announcement
EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF INSPECTION AND CODE ENFORCEMENT.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur.
Kind of Work
Technical work in the examination of construction plans and blueprints for residential or commercial construction, alterations, and renovations for compliance with the Parish building code, zoning, and related Parish ordinances and the subsequent issuance of building permits. Receives applications for residential building permits; assists applicants in application completion; provides zoning, permit, code and fee information to the public, property owners, contractors, developers, architects, engineers and other interested parties. Consults with architects, engineers, contractors and others regarding projects. Issues permits for renovations, new residential as well as zoning matters such as fences, demolition, dumpsters, garage sales, occupational licenses, temporary uses and other Parish regulated activities as assigned. Confirms legal descriptions for building, plumbing, electrical and mechanical; checks and authorizes top of slab and form certifications. Keeps abreast of records of all building permit applications and maps indicating new streets, buildings and addresses. Maintains current records of the Parish Council Zoning Studies for reference, ensuring permits are not issued until study has been completed or allotted time has expired. Employees will be required to obtain certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Plans Examiner or Building Plans Examiner prior to the completion of their probationary periods.
NOTE: While primary work location upon hire is East or West Jefferson, employee may be required to report to and work at either location as directed.
Minimum Qualifications For Admission to Examination
Current employment and permanent civil service status in a lower related class in the Department of Inspection and Code Enforcement.
Completion of high school and at least three (3) years of work experience as a residential general contractor, building construction superintendent, architectural designer/draftsperson, technical inspector and/or reviewer of residential construction plans.
Possession of an Associate's degree or higher in Engineering or Architectural drafting or design.
NOTE: Degrees in Landscape Architecture or Engineering other than civil are not acceptable unless supplemented by directly related work experience.
PREFERRED: Applicants possessing current certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Residential Plans Examiner and/or Building Plans Examiner will be given preference.
