Water Resources/ Roadway Drainage Design Engineer - Mid or Senior Level

ATCS is currently recruiting for a Hydraulics/ Water Resources Design Engineer in a mid-level or senior level position for our Cary, North Carolina office. The technical roles and responsibilities of this position include design assistance and management of assigned projects, including, but not limited to:

Design and analysis of storm drainage features
Design and analysis of Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs)
Design of Sediment and Erosion Control Best Management Practices (BMPs)
Preparation of environmental permit drawings
Preparation of construction plans and specifications
Floodplain analysis utilizing HEC-RAS software
FEMA floodplain analysis and compliance
Use of MicroStation and GEOPAK design software
Occasionally utilize skills to perform other design services as part of the overall design team

As a growing company, ATCS offers exceptional opportunities to grow professionally to build and lead a Water Resources practice from the ground-up. Depending upon the skill sets and experience level of the selected candidate, this position will provide opportunities for project management and supervisory roles. This would also include marketing the Water Resources practice, hiring and mentoring staff, and being a key part of the ATCS design and planning teams. Management and supervisory responsibilities would include:

Capable of coordinating simultaneous tasks/projects
Proficient communicating technical information
Able to work closely with other design disciplines to determine practical and sustainable solutions

Planning, scheduling and executing all phases of a hydraulic design or analysis as part of roadway design team

Performs Preliminary, Right of Way, and Final Engineering Design and review work of junior engineers, designers and drafters

Prepares labor and cost estimates, budgets and schedules

Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside of own discipline and company

Perform training of junior engineers, designers, and drafters

Requirements for this Position:
Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in NC

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the design and preparation of construction contract documents for highway projects

BSCE or equivalent degree required; Master's degree in Civil Engineering with emphasis on Hydraulics and Hydrology is preferred

NCDOT experience including ability to meet NCDOT prequalification requirements for hydraulics codes

Desired project design experience would include:
Experience with roadway drainage design, including ditches, small pipe culverts, storm sewer systems, outfall analysis, and drainage investigations

Experience with bridge and/or culvert design over streams using the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) design guidelines, such as Hydraulic Design Series 5, 7, etc.

Experience with drainage design using the NCDOT "Stormwater Best Management of Practices Toolbox"

Experience with design of bridges (BSRs) and culverts (CSRs) over FEMA regulated streams that require coordination and approvals from FEMA or their designees (CLOMR and LOMR preparation)

Experience using MicroStation CAD and Geopak Drainage Software, HY8, HECRAS, HEC1 or HECHMS, ARCGIS

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Products
