We are currently seeking a highly professional and motivated aerial sensor focused Mechanical Engineer to perform a variety of engineering duties in our Portland, OR location. Qualified candidates will have experience with research, design, and implementation of aerospace Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) aerial collection arrays and sensors in a multi-user environment for varying platform applications. Additionally, they will assist with special projects as assigned by the engineering team.
Completes a wide variety of difficult engineering assignments, applying engineering techniques and analyses within one discipline. The Engineer at this level is a fully qualified professional, proficient in the utilization of most engineering theories and practices. Some assignments involve CAE (computer aided engineering)/CAD (computer aided design) applications.
Design of parts for use on manned and unmanned aircraft, mainly consisting of mechanical mounts and electronics enclosures housing sensor arrays and associated co mponents .
Use Solidworks to create, maintain, and update drawings and models.
Use Solidworks in a multiuser environment, responsibly managing revisions, parts, and assemblies.
Research , design, and troubleshoot complex sensor problems and apply mechanical or electrical solutions.
Troubleshooting, support of acceptance testing, and field support of deployed remote sensing system.
Work in small interdisciplinary development teams and interface efficiently with software and systems engineers.
Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
Extracts engineering information from CAD drawings.
Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. Frequently interfaces with other Engineering disciplines as well as other departments in an agile, collaborative environment .
Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
Reviews supplier drawing submittals and performs technical bid analyses.
Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
Provides technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
May be required to provide the seal and signature of the professional engineer, as appropriate, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and ordinances.
May act in an advisory capacity to senior management personnel on engineering related matters.
Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or related field)
7+ years of related Engineering work experience
Proficiency in utilizing CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering is required.
A background that lends itself to making lightweight but functional equipment like automotive racing, high end bicycle gear, aerospace sensor s , electro optical a rrays, or RC airplane industries.
Strong attention to detail with high level of accuracy.
Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
Motivated, self-starter with ability to learn quickly.
Ability to work in a professional, fast-paced environment.
Basic understanding of vibration and load balancing.
Experience with FEA software such as Solidworks , Ansys, or others.
Experience interacting with machinists, supplying drawings, etc.
Hands on attitude, and a desire to own and see projects through to their completion.
Must be a United States Citizen per ITAR regulations and be able to pass a background check.
Active Secret clearance or above
Professional Engineer registration
Ability work and excel in a fast paced, small team environment
Some limited travel may be required
Experience in aerospace component desig n from idea to integration
