The Project Controls Coordinator will encompass performing duties in planning, cost accounting, and assist in overseeing construction activities. They are one of the on-site team members reporting to the Project Manager and/or Project Engineer as required.
The ideal candidate will have at least three to five years’ experience in the construction industry managing the budget/cost for projects at the field as well as in the office.
This position will be based out of the Detroit, Michigan office.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Confers with project staff to outline work plans and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority
Assists the project engineer in directing and coordinating activities of personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within the prescribed budget
Prepares status reports for management, client, and others involved in the project
Manages, monitors and forecasts the project budget with assistance and direction from the Project Manager
Assists the Project Engineer in coordinating the projects activities with Ballard personnel, subcontractors, and joint venture partners
Assists with the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the project, including safety, performance, budget, scheduling, equipment management, and quality
Assists the project team with forecasting project costs monthly
Generates financial reports for project management to include quarterly reports for forecasting cash burn rates
Processes budget rearrangements to create and fund new Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) codes and entries to move actual costs
Monitoring and analysis of labor costs to identify areas of improvement and mitigate potential overruns and/or losses
Prepares monthly billing to the owner with assistance from the Finance department using cost control software to be implemented
Facilitates weekly cost meetings with field supervisor and engineers
Manages and maintains project document control
Processes job invoices, review and approve contract and material requests, and monitor subcontract and purchase order statuses
Works with and is a part of the estimating departments during project procurement phases
Ability to act as a Quality Control / Quality Assurance representative as required
Ability to organize and manage subcontractors
Ability to relocate as needed
Have the knowledge of change order recognition and management
The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
The ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
Strong organizational and time management skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to foster relationships with employees at all levels within the organization
Ability to work under pressure and meet established goals and objectives, and strong creative problem-solving skills are required
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and work independently as well as in team environments, often under tight deadline situations, in a dynamic, fast-paced work environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe and be capable and willing to learn new software
Ability to work and thrive in a team environment
Ability to work well in a non-structured environment
Education & Certifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related field. (The degree may be substituted for five additional years of relevant experience)
Five plus years’ experience in document control and project controls
Physical Demands / Working Environment:
Ability to remain outdoors for long periods of time in various seasons and conditions
Climb ladders, work at heights, walk and stand on uneven surfaces, ride or work from a barge, pier, vessel, etc.
Ability to sit, stand, kneel, squat, push, pull, etc. for varying amounts of time
Ability to lift and carry up to twenty-five pounds
Ability to wear personal protective clothing and equipment including, but not limited to, respirators and fall protection
