Coatings/Membrane Research and Process Development Engineer

Chemours is seeking a Coatings Process Engineer to join our growing Ion Exchange Materials team. This position will report directly to the Global Technology Manager in our Wilmington, DE location.

The Coatings Process Engineer will be responsible for the successful translation of novel membrane designs from the lab/prototype scale to the commercial manufacturing scale. He/She will facilitate successful scale up of promising R&D materials, identify the effect of key coating parameters on product manufacturability and performance, and ensure consistent quality required by customers. The ideal candidate will have 5 or more years of experience and an engineering degree with training in Coatings Process technology to make coated films (recent graduates with advanced degrees will be considered). As the business lead on this technology, the Coatings Process Engineer is a highly visible, key global role with direct responsibility to help grow the Ion Exchange Materials business.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Coating polymer films with thicknesses around 100 micrometers and below
Working with coating technologies such as slot die, gravure, or other coating methods
Managing roll-to-roll (R2R) web handling activities
Interacting with membrane development team to convey impact of coating parameters
Providing guidance to the application development engineers and business leads to solve complex customer problems
Relating coating considerations to marketing and sales teams
Working directly with operations to launch new products and implement quality improvements
Assisting in design, selection, and/or implementation of coating technologies and quality control systems at prototype and manufacturing scale
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:

Bachelors Degree in Engineering with related Experience
Experience in using coating technology to make polymer films
Demonstrated ability to plan, prioritize and manage multiple, complex, time-sensitive projects
Demonstrated skill in leadership, team building and achieving results through influence and negotiation
Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop peers/employees
Great interpersonal and communication skills
Must work well in both self-managed and team environments
Ability to travel up to 30 % of the time

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit :
MS degree or PhD in Engineering or related field or equivalent experience
>5 years’ experience in coatings technology to make membranes
Experience with complex, multi-stage coating processes
Six sigma or other data management/statistical tools
