Project Engineer – Marine MEP
The Project Engineer applies a broad knowledge of principles and practices in a specific practice area. The Project Engineer is responsible for independently evaluating, selecting and adapting standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while working on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
DISCIPLINE SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
This role will lead mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineering for marine and waterfront engineering projects. Examples of the responsibilities include, but are not limited to the inspection, design, analysis, code compliance review, and construction oversight for:
§ Shore-power systems for piers, wharves, marinas, and small craft-harbors. Includes determination of demand, system sizing, connection to electrical service, equipment layout (switches, panels, disconnects, and transformers), and conduit layout.
§ Lighting protection and grounding.
§ Basic site lighting including determination of pole/fixture layout to meet minimum guidelines for minimum light intensity.
§ Basic mechanical systems for ferry landing ramp design (e.g. pullies, winches, and cables).
§ Impressed current and sacrificial cathodic protection systems for underwater steel elements.
§ Potable water and boat sewage pumpout systems (including sizing, power, and heat tracing.)
§ Commercial marine fuel system design (e.g. above ground tanks, manifolds, piping, and pump systems)
§ Marine fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA guidelines.
The above responsibilities will either be performed directly by the incumbent or by MEP subconsultant firms under the management of the incumbent.
§ Responsible for the technical design and engineering required to complete projects or portions of projects within the scope, schedule and budget.
§ Plans and coordinates detailed aspects of engineering work; designs a complete project, system, component or process.
§ Assists with the preparation of project scopes, budgets and schedules for assignments;
§ Prepares complete project documents and designs, analyzes and interprets data, and solves technical problems.
§ Assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians and administrative staff.
§ Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
§ Works collaboratively with internal and external partners on multidisciplinary design/engineering projects.
§ Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum or equivalent, plus appropriate continuing education.
§ Professional Engineering Registration.
§ A minimum of five years of experience.
§ Excellent analytical capability; strong verbal and written communication skills.
§ Able to thrive in a team focused environment and engage in creative, critical thought; takes initiative and can function at a high level on multi-disciplinary teams.
