You will serve as a Product Development Lead (PDL) for cryogenic systems or complex cryogenic instrument providing technical cryogenic engineering leadership.
Provides design, development, production & test, evaluation, application, and characterization of High Temperature Superconducting Leads and their associated assemblies at the component and subsystem level for application on Sub-Kelvin instruments.
This includes detailed design, manufacture and integration of High Temperature Superconducting (HTS) Lead assembly subcomponents.
Develops plan for expenditure of funds and schedule to achieve a completed HTS Leads subsystem which meets project requirements.
Organizes and leads milestone reviews and ensures product development in compliance to established project and organization standards.
Directs technical trade and risk management studies throughout the project development cycle.
Delivers the finished HTS Leads assembly for integration into the instrument package or mission spacecraft.
The incumbent is an expert in the concepts, design, development and delivery of HTS Leads subsystems.
Coordinates activities of a team to develop and deliver an assembled system/subsystem meeting project requirements, and manages the expenditure of allotted funds and manpower to produce the system/subsystem within the allotted schedule.
Adequately tests and verifies the quality of a delivered product, ensuring that it meets the Project requirements.
Serves as a senior engineer specializing in the design and development of advanced Sub-Kelvin cooling system architectures, components and interfaces that include HTS Leads and seek to advance the state-of-the-art.
Occasional travel - Travel may be required for training or other work-related duties

To qualify for the GS-14:
You must have one year of professional, directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service designing, fabricating and testing of spaceflight High Temperature Superconducting Leads; performing non-invasive inspection of High Temperature Superconducting Lead bond joints; ensuring product development is in compliance to established project and organization standards; having working knowledge of superconducting attachment techniques, as well as, environmental and materials compatibility concerns for operation and storage of High Temperature Superconducting Lead materials.
In order to qualify for this position you must meet Basic Education Requirement
You must have successfully completed an undergraduate or graduate degree with a major in either a) engineering from a college or university that has ABET accredited engineering programs or b) Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science, Computer Science*, Other fields of science.
- Note: Curriculum must include 30 semester hours of course work in a combination of mathematics, statistics and computer science. Of the 30 semester hours, 15 must be in any combination of statistics and mathematics which includes differential and integral calculus.
Degrees in engineering technology are not considered to be qualifying for this position.
