Ford Motor Company - Greenfield Labs (GFL) is seeking a self-driven and creative individual who is interested in the field of Mobility Research to help create, champion and deliver smart vehicles for a smart world. Building, developing, exploring and integrating our drone activities are critical for GFL to grow our mobility business, and a dedicated research engineer will help us succeed. This position is located at Ford Greenfield Labs, a technology R&D facility in Palo Alto, California. The center focuses on cutting-edge technologies and development of Autonomous Vehicles, IoT/Connectivity, Software, and Mobility Innovations. The individual can work independently as well as collaboratively with a diverse and talented group of internal researchers, engineers, and inventors.

Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or related degree
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics or related degree
Part 107 license (sUAS piloting experience)
Experience in sUAS development (either PX4, DroneCode, AirSim, Parrot-SDK, DJI-SDK, etc)
iOS / Android development familiarity
Familiarity with Python, C++, MATLAB, embedded device programming
Experience in defining projects, collecting requirements, writing detailed functional and test specifications, coordinating efforts to scope, schedule and deploy new features sets
Electronic and mechanical prototyping abilities (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, maker space fabrication)
SOLIDWORKS or CATIA familiarity
Experience coordinating research projects with universities
Connection to Silicon Valley tech/startup community, eagerness and ability to represent Ford in this space
Experience in research for Product Development
Ability to design experiments that verify prototypes and concepts
Ability to generate technical documents
Knowledge of hardware development process and lifecycle
Excellent written and verbal communication skills engaging technical and non-technical stakeholders
Ability to empathize with customers to generate design solutions
Strong problem solving skills
Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Google Apps
