The Engineer VI supervises the professional and nonprofessional personnel of a major engineering activity; develops procedures and standards for carrying out their specialty in the organization, and represents the organization with authority on technical engineering matters within the area of specialization; may direct a large engineering section or assist in directing a large engineering division or district office as a technical specialist in planning, development, design and/or research; may lead the efforts of a team engaged in carrying out difficult or critical project assignments with emphasis in the area of specialization; or serves as a staff specialist responsible for overall control and coordination of a number of major and complex engineering projects or programs; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:
Professional License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid State of Hawaii Professional Engineer license AT THE TIME OF APPOINTMENT.

Basic Education: A bachelor's degree from a school of engineering from an accredited four-year college or university. Relevant substitutions as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements will apply.
Engineering VI Experience: Applicants must possess four (4) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience. At least one (1) year of Engineering Experience must have been comparable to the next lower level.
Supervisory or Staff Advisory Experience: Level VI requires one (1) year of Supervisory OR Staff Advisory Experience as described in the Minimum Qualification Requirements.
Driver's License: Applicants MUST POSSESS a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.
Special Requirements: Some positions require the ability to lift and carry items of various weights with or without reasonable accommodation.
