Position Summary

The Fastener R&D Engineer has an understanding of the engineering design of wood-metal, wood-wood and steel-steel connections and systems, a basic understanding of the fastener manufacturing processes and a strong interest in fastener development and performance and fastener tools; demonstrates expertise in a variety of fastening concepts, practices, and procedures; relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals; performs a variety of tasks; and may provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be a contributor/specialist.


30% of the time you will: Work with product management and other engineering teams as related to the innovation and development of new fasteners and screw driving tools.

15% of the time you will: Coordinate design, manufacturing, quality and evaluation of new or existing fasteners and tools.

15% of the time you will: Collaborate with Sales and Marketing as related to screw driving tools, screws, and fasteners

15% of the time you will: Implement and document product revisions.

10% of the time you will: Work with Marketing to develop technical literature for fastener products and tools.

10% of the time you will: Visit suppliers, vendors, and customers as needed to supply technical help and demonstrate or field test new products.

5% of the time you will: Participate in codes and standards development as appropriate.


Bachelor of Science Degree or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Engineering or related college and experience and/or training required.
EIT (preferred) or licensed professional engineer (or interest and ability to complete licensure).
Recent graduates encouraged; 0-2 years related experience preferred.
Communication: Ability to write in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience. Ability to effectively present information to groups of managers, team members and customers.
Industry knowledge: Understanding of materials, especially metals and wood-based materials, production processes, coatings and corrosion resistance and quality assurance.
Familiarity with construction and industrial fasteners and applicable standards; and possess the capability of writing specifications.
Computer Skills: Windows-based computer skills, such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. CAD skills are essential.
Teamwork and Collaboration: Ability to work in teams and lead team projects.


This job requires limited (<10%) domestic travel.

Work Status & Location

This full-time, exempt position is located in Gallatin, TN (preferred).


Relocation is not available for this position.
