Position Title: Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) System Test Engineer
Reports To: Director of Battery Systems and Controls
Status: Regular Full-time
Location: Auburn Hills , MI
The Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) System Test Engineer will be involved from the beginning of the development life cycle to build test cases that assure SW and HW issues are surfaced early in the design process. The Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) System Test Engineer is expected to demonstrate working expertise in test specification design and execution, and debugging for embedded systems, have experience in software verification projects, and delivering production software releases. The Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) System Test Engineer will be involved in development efforts for each release of the embedded software. You will join an enthusiastic team to deliver high-quality, robust software through collaboration and testing.
Perform test development and test execution throughout product lifecycle
Participate in the design and validation of features from initial requirements through field deployment
Create test cases and build automation tools for feature release and performance testing
Collaborate with development team to define use cases and test coverage
Lead bug/defect tracking and reporting activities
Manage test activities to support project schedules / milestones
Support in field testing as needed
Assist development engineers in design of experiments, lab test setup, and execution
Establish and continuously develop the HiL Environment to support an increasingly complicated DUT.
Additional Support Responsibilities
Work with the Marketing & Sales team to define and implement software solutions supporting BMS product roadmaps; provide input such as testing cost, timing and feasibility estimates
Work with Program Managers to rigorously enforce Change Management discipline after Design Freeze to ensure BMS software reflects and complies with the appropriate revision levels of the product specifications.
Drive fast and thorough problem resolution through use of team-oriented problem solving tools, including 8D, Ishikawa, 5-Why, Is-IsNot techniques.
B.S. in one of the following: Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or Controls Engineering.
Three years of progressive experience as Systems Engineer, Software Engineer, Embedded Software Engineer or related industry experience conducting functional, regression, and, user acceptance testing in Hardware in the Loop (HIL) test environment.
At least 2 years’ experience creating MATLAB and Simulink plant models.
Experience in testing embedded systems in an automated HIL type of environment
Fluency with at least 1 scripting language such as Perl, Python, or Linux scripting language
Experience in C, C++, MatLab and Simulink code and code generation tools
Proficient in software and hardware measurement and analysis
Understanding of real time processing systems and common issues
Diligent documentation keeping skills
Self-driven and adaptive personality, performing as both project leader and individual contributor as the situation dictates
Experience with lab setup, establishing of test lab equipment and processes
Experience with CAN/LIN communication networks and Vector tools
QA experience with embedded SW solutions, compliant with CMMI and/or Automotive SPICE
Experience with Rapid Prototyping systems, such as dSPACE, etc.
Basic understanding of PCB schematics.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Project, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and SharePoint
Builds safety, quality and compliance into all actions; committed to continuous learning and self-improvement
Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support on site customer testing, debug, or sales/proposal activities
Understanding of basic Hardware Debugging
Experience with building test harnesses (Wiring Harnesses) and basic electrical circuits
