The purpose of the Product Safety Compliance Engineer III is to apply knowledge of regulatory compliance and engineering principles to the design, redesign, and testing of electronic instrumentation, subassemblies, and complex systems. Products include a wide range of instruments, sensors, probes, and machines that are used to analyze, treat, and manage the quality of ultra-pure water, portable water, wastewater, groundwater and ocean water in residential, commercial, industrial, and natural resource applications.
Main areas of responsibility, usually working with mentorship from a Sr. Engineer:
1. Design for Compliance : work with R&D on assigned requests to ensure new products are designed to meet compliance requirements, participate in preliminary and critical product design reviews
2. Stay Up to Date : actively track developments in regulatory compliance community, review and interpret new industry safety guidelines, and incorporate requirements as appropriate as they relate to the diverse portfolio of Water Platform products
3. Implement: write compliance related procedures and review and answer compliance requests from Water Platform companies

Evaluate and analyze instrumentation circuit designs for compliance with regulatory standards and directives. Suggest options and changes to the instrumentation design to improve the design’s robustness and chances of compliance when tested.
Review and analyze compliance regulations and standards to uncover their applicability and requirements as applied to instrumentation
Regulations and standards are often broadly stated and not always specific. Must use judgment and ingenuity in interpreting the intent and in developing reasonable interpretations and approaches to the applying of them. This role is recognized as a technical authority for interpretation, applicability and implementation.
The work includes varied duties requiring many different and unrelated processes and methods applied to a broad range of activities and analysis. The work involves isolating and defining unknown conditions, resolving critical problems, or developing new theories. The work product or service affects the work of other experts, the development of major aspects of engineering or scientific programs or missions, and/or the well-being of great numbers of people.
Associate's Degree with a minimum of 7 years of on the job product compliance engineering experience
Ability to d esign and test commonly-used circuits , and compliance testing/evaluation techniques
Knowledge of ISO quality systems (specifically documentation and procedure controls) and related requirements
Electro-mechanical & systems-level experience . Electro-mechanical design concepts relating to compliance, design and manufacturing, as well as tradeoff options.
Technical applications knowledge, including standards, electronic test equipment and testing and test systems
Industry contacts and participation in industry organizations/societies
Specialization in Safety and one or more of the following areas:
(well, this one is mandatory) Product Safety standards and certification and testing of electrical instrumentation
Product EMC standards
Product Environmental testing (e.g. thermal, humidity, vibration, enclosures)
Environmental compliance (Chemical, "Green") standards and regulations of electrical instrumentation and materials
FCC and global radio/wireless standards and certification
Laser standards and CDRH certification
Hazardous locations (and ATEX) design certification of electrical instrumentation
Strong analytical and complex problem-solving experience.
Excellent interpersonal skills in writing and presenting technical data, proposals, plans & reports, executive summaries, and compliance-related newsletter articles.
Must be able to work well within product teams including engineering, management, marketing/sales, operating companies, third-party agencies, and contractors. Develop partnerships with multi-functional, global teams.
Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a fast-paced environment.
Ability to obtain, clarify, or give facts or information that may range from easily understood to highly technical. The purpose may include influencing, motivating, convincing, or questioning persons or groups.
Moderate travel (less than 25%) is required in North America and Europe.
