Nuclear Welder - BWX Technologies, Inc - Euclid, OH
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Weld a variety of metals completing welding details on materials ranging from heavy machined parts to thinned wall components. Weld jigs, fixtures, special machine racks and frames, and like items.
Perform delicate weld operations on very expensive components and assemblies and other difficult details where specifications provide no work variation or scrap allowances. May necessitate the adaptation of available fixtures.
Work from specific approved procedures, generalized oral instructions, rough sketches, or complex blueprints. Work in close cooperation with weld engineer, weld inspector, and other authorized personnel.
Reads and strictly complies with weld blueprints, weld procedures, and sketches.
Grinding to remove slag inclusions, excessive weld, burrs, or other pre-post steps required to make an acceptable weld.
Must become certified to all requirements of BWXT contracts pertaining to welding, and brazing, imposed on BWXT both now and in the future.
Inspect all work using appropriate measurement instruments.
Refers all issues/problems to supervisor for disposition.
Completes and maintains all documentation as directed by work instructions and policies.
Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
Performs machine maintenance, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Follows and complies with all operation instructions, work rules, and safety policies.
Maintain reliable attendance and consistent work hours of, on average, forty hours per work week.
Must have the ability to work an off shift of 3:00pm-11:00pm or 11:00pm- 7:00am.
Job Qualifications / Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalency
Preferred but not required, applicable US Government and customer-approved certificates for welding nuclear components.
Ability to perform, pass, and maintain any welding/brazing qualifications necessary for the efficient operation of the department.
2 years experience in manual and/or automatic gas tungsten arc welding.
Read and interpret complex blueprints and interpret geometric tolerancing per ANSI Y14.5
Possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation and the ability to follow complicated procedures and document accordingly.
Demonstrate the use of various measuring instruments.
Able to read, comprehend, and communicate in English.
Pass all applicable written and operational examinations.
Meet required vision standards.
