Electronics & Electrical Systems (EES) Motor Design Engineer, Project Engineer Electromagnetics
Develops and integrates motor and drive solutions into platforms to achieve attribute and product performance targets.
Works with Electronics & Electrical Systems (EES) Drive Technology Leader, EES Integrators and Platform Integrators to design, develop and deliver motor drive solutions into platforms.
Participate in the electromagnetic design of assigned projects. Projects will include permanent magnet motors and/or induction motors and other electromagnetic devices.
Will use commercial design software to perform lumped parameter calculations, as well as Finite Element Analysis (FEA) as necessary.
Provide basic technical guidance for thermal analysis, structural analysis, and NVH analysis.
Will interact closely with other design functions, including mechanical and design/drafting
Translate technical / sub-system targets into module / component targets.
Drives component/module trade-offs to achieve optimum performance vs cost vs schedule
Directly owns and contributes to motor design elements and performance attributes (electromagnetics) including design for manufacturability.
Project management of project(s) including Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), project schedule, risk mitigation plan, supplier coordination, etc.
As appropriate, owns the test-to-learn process, data collection, and analysis of results.
Accountable for the creation of libraries, capture, and reuse of knowledge.
Design, development, and validation of motor drive solutions.
Contribution to drive technology roadmap - both inputs and outputs.
Day-to-day prioritization of activities related to motor drive development and integration.
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
5+ years of Project Management experience
10+ years of experience with electromagnetic design analysis and calculations using electromagnetic fundamentals and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) commercial software (Ansys, etc.)
10+ years of experience with Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R), Lean Product Development (Lean PD), or Operational Excellence (OPEX)
Understanding of optimizing performance attributes vs cost
Effective risk mitigation and issue resolution on the project timeline
Excellent teamwork, project management, and communication skills (both verbal and written) required.
Ability to work cross-functionally and globally
Experience with electromagnetic principles and analyses, and in particular, the magnetic structure and relationships of electrical motors and machines
Materials knowledge in magnet and magnetic properties
