To act as a Sr. Product Design Engineer, meaning being the technical reference for specific Stoody hardfacing and high-alloy product lines, including product design, development, maintenance, and field applications. This role also involves supporting manufacturing operations and dealing with customers. The main product lines are stainless steels, high-nickel alloys, and iron base coated electrodes. The Sr. Product Design Engineer could act as a back-up resources on other product lines.
The position is essential in procuring efficient technical support to the production unit operations and the customer base.
To provide metallurgical support to product line management and business unit operations.
To develop and maintain specific product lines, including raw materials and applications.
To work with operations and process engineering on continuous improvement projects.
Responding to customer and plant requests in a timely manner. Frequent emergencies.
The position implies working with many proprietary alloy systems. Steep learning curve.
The position might call for occasional after hour response or events.
Involvement with select demanding customers must be considered.
Materials or Metallurgical Engineering Bachelor's Degree
Ideal technical requirements:
Welding processes, especially GMAW, FCAW, SMAW, and GTAW.
Understanding of wear and corrosion phenomena.
Metallography and metallurgical samples preparation.
Technical writing skills.
AWS filler metal specifications.
Hardfacing applications know-how.
Metallurgy including alloy steels, stainless steels, nickel alloys, iron base hardfacing alloys.
5 to 10 years with hardfacing products and/or welding processes.
Fact- and data-based decision making.
Active listening of both customers and internal resources. Communication skills.
