Myomo is seeking a mechanical engineer to work as part of the team responsible for the design and development of powered orthotics for the MyoPro Product Line. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer with a passion for bringing novel designs to market. He/she should have a good fundamental understanding of mechatronics and experience bringing products from early concept development through to commercialization.
Duties and responsibilities
Designing and improving Myomo’s line of robotic exoskeletons
Interacting with suppliers to obtain quotes and assess component manufacturability from a wide variety of sources, including CNC machining, sheet metal, textiles, orthotics, printed circuit boards, and injection molding.
Collaborating with peers to develop testing protocols and fixtures to verify performance and improve line-side manufacturing
Ability to interact with CAD designs to bring early stage concepts through to cost-effective manufacturing and sourcing
Ability to build prototypes and critically evaluate performance
Proficiency with Solidworks, Excel, and basic FEA techniques
Drafting, tolerancing, and DFM for low-mid volume manufacture
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Effective teamwork skills with the desire to learn and adapt with a small dynamic team
Attention to detail and ability to manage engineering BOMs and documentation effectively
BS in Mechanical Engineering & 2+ years experience, or MS & 1+ years industry experience with electromechanical product development and manufacturing
Working knowledge of rapid-prototyping and volume manufacturing processes including 3D printing, CNC machining, and injection molding
Experience integrating actuation, sensing, control logic, and electronics in compact packages
Experience with wearables, medical devices, and design control a plus
The job requires a person to work some weekday evenings and weekend work.
