We’re currently looking for a Vendor Tooling Engineer to join our team in Farmington Hills, MI.
Responsible for providing direction in sourcing decisions for tools and check fixtures, ensuring dies are built to die standards and per agreed upon timing to meet program milestones, and acting as the primary point of contact with tool shops to give direction on tool builds as it relates to craftsmanship, part quality, cost and delivery.
Maximize material utilization during quoting and then die design stages
Provide product direction as needed to ensure parts can meet manufacturing requirements and GD&T expectations
Facilitate and direct die design reviews involving pressroom, quality and engineering team members
Follow die builds through all stages of build to ensure dies are constructed to the approved designs and catch any concerns which may have been overlooked during design review
Achieve full buy-off of completed tools from press department or tier 2 suppliers
Quote and manage implementation of all ECN activities on existing tools.
Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing process
Support the CPMP process as directed by the Program Manager
Knowledge and Education:
B.S. Mechanical Engineering preferred; apprenticeship in Tool and Die, Tool Design Technology, or Associate's in a related field will be considered.
Computer skills; Proficient in Microsoft Project and CAD
Tooling background in both design and build of plastic component parts and injection molds preferred.
