The Engineer is primarily engaged in design of connections for steel structures. Other engineering duties related to overall fabrication and construction support are performed as required.
Displays a commitment to Waiward’s incident-free vision, values, and culture.
Works independently, or with a group, to design structural steel connections.
Clearly communicate with Project Managers and Estimators as required to ensure design objectives match schedule and financial objectives.
Participate in the review and development of Excel based design aids.
Provide construction support as required (lifting studies, lifting lug design, erection plan development / review, fabrication troubleshooting).
B. Sc. in Civil Engineering (M.Sc. Preferred).
Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) registered with APEGA (P.Eng preferred but willing to mentor an E.I.T. for exceptional candidates).
Experience with connection design is preferred.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
Familiarity with AutoCAD and Tekla Structures is an asset.
Highly organized and attentive to detail.
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, management, and external relationships.
The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces when cold); carrying objects, driving, and being exposed to normal office routines.
The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perofrm an activity such as: viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to sit for extended periods of time.
