Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is a multi-program laboratory applying state of the art science and practical, high-value, cost-effective solutions to complex technical problems to protect the nation. Located at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Savannah River Site (SRS), the laboratory develops and deploys innovative technologies to address some of the nation’s environmental, energy, and national security challenges.
Develop conventional engineering and scientific solutions to technical task objectives. Learn specific Division/Department systems and requirements for accomplishing tasks. Assist more senior technical personnel in performing related activities in more complex tasks. Accept delegated technical responsibility for a limited phase of a scientific or an engineering program. Support engineers or scientists performing related phases of a program. Assist in study, development, testing and analyses of designs, processes or procedures relating to a limited phase of a group's function. Organize and accept responsibility for the accuracy of limited technical analyses, and evaluation of results using standard techniques and procedures. Make scientific, engineering and design calculations. May prepare project cost proposal in an assigned area. Assist in the preparation of technical manuals, reports and procedures. May advance technology within assigned area through the medium of patent disclosures, preparation and presentation of technical papers, articles and talks.

Salary offers are commensurate with candidate's experience and applicable education in comparison to incumbents.
Basic Education Qualifications
Bachelor degree in applicable science or engineering discipline
Other Required Qualifications
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE security clearance.
Proof of complete COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption authorization will be required for employment at SRNL
The ideal candidate will have bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related fields from an accredited college or university. Proven hands on experience in the design, assembly, and testing of unmanned aircraft is desired. Previous experience developing custom UAV solutions &software, maintaining UAV, FAA Part 107 certified UAV Pilot plus demonstrated skill and proficiency in flying UAVs is a plus. Complementary experience in any of the following areas is desirable – 3D modeling, Pro Engineer Creo design software, machine design, additive manufacturing, Virtual/Augumented Reality, robotics, computer analysis, and/or proposal development. Patents, publications, or conference presentations are a plus.
