Title: Facilities Engineer
Reports To: CFO
The Facilities Engineer directs the design, planning, construction and maintenance of company facilities and properties. He or she:
Is responsible for developing budgets and long-range facilities plans based on company growth and future facilities needs;
Benchmarks facility costs and identifies & implements cost savings initiatives;
Oversees the functioning of all building systems including mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, plumbing, and waste management;
Monitors budgets and recommends contracts for approval;
Oversees contractors involved in facility projects and delivery of services;
Ensures that facility projects are completed on time, on budget and meet their goals;
Ensures building operations comply with all local zoning laws and regulations;
Negotiates for economic development incentives and grants related to facility construction, expansion and improvement;
Seeks to economically progress facilities toward state of the art environmentally responsible standards.
The role will have both facility operations and project management responsibilities. Projects that could be assigned include laboratory expansions, site relocations, and facility upgrades world-wide. Smooth project delivery is the goal while meeting cost, quality, and schedule objectives. Collaborative influence, customer focus, and principled are attributes that will contribute to exceeding leadership expectations.
Key elements of the role’s scope and responsibility are:
The ultimate responsibility for facilities management strategy, operational plans and execution rests with the Presidents of the Member Companies. The Facilities Engineer plays a key role in supporting TSG and its Member Companies in carrying out these efforts.
Support all of TSG’s businesses globally, including laboratory, industrial and office facilities in North America, China and the United Kingdom.
Development, oversight and implementation of TSG’s global facilities strategy to assure the business is positioned to execute on its strategic and operational plans.
The successful candidate will report to the CFO of TSG.
Development of Long-Term Facilities Plans – Coordinate with Member Company and Group Level Staff to determine tenant needs over the strategic planning horizon. Develop and maintain a running multi-year plan for needed expansions and upgrades to company facilities. This includes an analysis of when it makes sense to replace or repair as well as developing energy saving strategies.
Oversight of Facilities Construction Projects – Serve as the project manager for all construction projects. This involves establishing budgets and timelines, setting and communicating quality standards, selecting vendors, overseeing contractors, assuring proper zoning and permitting approvals, assuring adherence to quality, budget and timeline targets, and effectively communicating project progress against targets.
Development and Oversight of Facilities Maintenance Policies and Procedures – Developing global facility maintenance policies and procedures. This involves assuring the safety, upkeep and functional effectiveness of company facilities.
Financial Stewardship of Facilities Capital Projects – To assure we achieve our return on asset targets as a company, the Facilities Engineer will track project plans against their approved capital request investment return projections.
Assurance of Local Zoning and Regulatory Compliance – For all current facilities and planned expansions, the Facilities Engineer will assure we are fully compliant with local zoning and permitting regulations. In addition, the Facilities Manger will attempt to effectively communicate with local regulatory bodies where a misunderstanding of compliance may exist.
Pursuing and Securing Economic Development Incentives – The Facilities Engineer will work to research, negotiate and obtain economic development incentives associated with facilities projects.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate should possess the following qualifications:
Demonstrated hands on experience managing large industrial and office construction projects
Several years of experience directly managing the facilities of a multi-site, multi-national employer operating in industrial and office locations; laboratory facility experience is preferred
Educational and professional background in engineering, construction management, or related field
Management of a variety of facilities operations including:
Regular and preventative maintenance
Mechanical and electrical systems
Furniture procurement and inventory maintenance
A record of prioritizing continuous development, including involvement with IFMA or related professional societies
Knowledge of building codes and project management methods
Experience handling facility operations and project work simultaneously
Knowledge of sustainable facilities principles
