SeeScan is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to help create our next generation of premier diagnostic and utility locating equipment. Working in the Mechanical Engineering department, you will play a critical role in the design of our growing suite of best-in-class utility locating and plumbing diagnostic products that serve our customers around the world.

In this position, you will
Organize and conduct technical projects within the design, fabrication, and modification of mechanical (including opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical) systems, equipment, and packaging
Conduct feasibility studies and testing of new and modified designs, and provide recommendations accordingly
Design plastic, metal, and other material parts and assemblies using SolidWorks
Participate in the preparation of detailed design, design testing, and prototype fabrication
Receive, consider, and incorporate feedback from other members of the technical staff
Provide technical guidance to drafters/designers, engineering technicians, and machine shop team members
Natural problem solver who enjoys working with your hands
First in line to dive right in with real parts and real tools on a workbench when things don’t go as expected
As eager to share your failures as your successes in the problem solving process
Work proactively both independently and on a team
Complete tasks on time with minimal supervision
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Work well in a dynamic design environment with changing priorities and moving targets
Desired skills and experience
This is a sampling of the type of skills and experience we’d like to see in our ideal candidate. If you don’t check off all the boxes, that’s okay – we’re more interested in hiring someone who will be the right fit for our community and who demonstrates the capability to learn.
Familiarity with electromechanical assemblies, including proper handling of delicate electronics
Understanding of a wide variety of manufacturing and machining processes
Successful history of design for applications requiring extreme durability and long service life
Passion for miniaturization, including designing at length scales below 1 mm
Design of sealed assemblies achieving IP68 or better
Thermal management, especially of electronic subassemblies
Able to determine product requirements, generate recommendations, document findings, and communicate findings to others
Proficiency in SolidWorks or related parametric solid modeling software
Some experience with basic metrology, including thread measurements, and use of basic measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gages
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and real-world experience as a mechanical engineer desired
