St. Croix Forge Inc. a small global manufacturer that is focused on manufacturing operational excellence. This is a newly created opportunity for an experienced Design Engineer to join the team. This role will support both Domestic and Global projects for R&D, Innovation, and Production departments.

The Design Engineer will be responsible for leading and optimizing manufacturing processes, improvements to production equipment, and generating ideas for future improvement opportunities. This position will work with all company functions in order to identify improvement projects, increase plant efficiencies, and reduce cost.

Daily tasks include variations in assignments, opportunities to leverage best-in-class knowledge, running self-identified projects, and balancing multi-tasking to achieve the desired targets. In addition, this role will evaluate R&D/Innovation prototypes for new and improved manufacturing equipment and capability analysis.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Apply knowledge of engineering principles to design projects
Facilitate smooth transition of projects from engineering to manufacturing
Participate in the initial phases of new products and provide feedback on production capabilities
Program and maintain design layouts, parts assemblies, and drawing files in SolidWorks
Research, design, and evaluate mechanical components, equipment, systems and processes to meet internal customer requirements
Define and develop product processes related to design, analysis, testing, materials, manufacturing, quality and/or productivity
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
Research and analyze materials, tools, fixtures, and processes required to manufacture product in the most efficient manner
Issue budgetary estimates for implementing new design concepts
Participate on cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing, design & quality issues with problem-solving teams composed of subject matter experts
Investigate equipment failures or performance limitations, and make recommendations to correct problems and reduce bottlenecks
Develop and test models of alternate designs and processing methods to assess feasibility, operating condition effects, possible new applications and necessity of modification
Work with other technical functions to develop and improve all aspects of production, including selection of manufacturing methods, fabrication, and safe use of designs
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors of Science in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent degree and experience.
5 years of Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
Proficient with 3D Modeling software SolidWorks.
Design and develop custom equipment, fixtures, and tooling.
Experience in forging or metal-working industry preferred (hot forging experience a plus)
Able to communicate and work effectively with vendors and employees at all levels
Ability to work both in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision
Excellent project planning, project management and organizational skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Experience with Lean Manufacturing desired
Work collaboratively in a global team to develop solutions to problems.
Up to 10% travel may be required (Domestic and International)
