The Component Engineering (CE) group supports New Product Introduction (NPI), Released Product Engineering (RPE), Purchasing, and Manufacturing organizations. Activities include reviewing and approving new part requests, advising on components selection, addressing end-of-life (EOL) issues, conducting component level tests, and looking for alternatives for second sourcing, shortages, and cost reduction.
The Component Engineer is responsible for staying current with component technology, market, and trends, maintaining expertise in Tektronix (Tek) online tools, increasing knowledge of component applications, and analyzing schematics. Other duties include communicating road maps, participating in commodity reviews, designing and conducting component level tests, and analyzing test results. Component Engineers are also expected to support NPI teams throughout the development of a new product where they will be responsible for guiding the design team in making component selections that will reduce supply chain issues during the life of the product.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
o Learning and communicating component roadmaps to Tek design engineers and supply chain
o Consult and advise component selections for new product development and sustaining activities
o Participate in Bill of Materials and schematic reviews during NPI and released product phases
o Approving requests for new parts into the Tek system. Review requests for accuracy to include part number, parametric data, RoHS compliance, HTS and ECCN export classifications, and approve if all Tek requirements are met
o Coordinate activities related to qualifying new parts e.g. finding possible candidates to test, arranging for samples and product-level testing, and updating Tek systems
o Support Tek Purchasing and sub-contractors by assisting them in resolving supply chain issues, including EOL notifications
o Design and coordinate fabrication of test fixtures to be used with parametric test equipment
o Perform component performance testing, collect and analyze data, and provide results and recommendations to design engineers
o Make necessary changes in Tek systems to ensure data accuracy
o Responsible for following all rules of safety and maintaining the work area in a neat and orderly fashion
o Assist Tek supplier quality with component issues and problem solving
o Work with NPI, RPE, and test engineers to develop test strategies for the CE group
o Participate in commodity reviews with supply chain team
o Understand proper maintenance of CE test equipment
o May work within the scope of other job classifications when necessary because of workload requirements
The successful candidate will possess the following combination of education and experience:
- Education Requirements. Four-year bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering or equivalent
- 1-2 years of work experience in electronics preferred
- Must understand basics of schematics analysis, applying electronic theory, principles of electric circuits, and electronic testing procedures
- Must have an understanding in the use of basic electronic test equipment
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing with other engineers
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Understanding of products like Oracle or Enovia
- Basic understanding of test instruments programming
- Computer programming skills
