Responsibilities:

  • Designing of structural systems such as industrial buildings, equipment support structure, foundations, custom tilting and loading structures, lifting and handling equipment, and miscellaneous steel; On occasion may work on civil works
  • Carry out beam sizing, Connection design, detail engineering, and setting up of finite element analysis models
  • Work under supervision and direction of structural engineers to produce deliverables according to project scope and requirements
  • Developing drawing packages including plan-layouts, engineering drawings, assembly drawings, and shop-drawings
  • Attend to other project deliverables and requirements as required
  • Effective communication with project manager(s) and team members on all stages of a project to identify and address problems and bottlenecks
  • Reporting to Project Engineer and Project manager, delivers drawings, submittals, and reports
  • Make site visits to facilities and construction sites as required for client meetings, site measurements, and inspections

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor or technologist degree in structural, mechanical or industrial engineering from an accredited Canadian institution
  • Minimum 2-3 years relevant industry experience in a structural design role is required. Applicants with structural drafting only experience but with demonstrated ability to learn and develop technical skills may be considered
  • Ability to function in disciplines outside of structural such as mechanical disciplines a strong asset
  • Experience in a fabrication shop, industrial facility, or consulting firm a strong asset
  • Experience with Autodesk products required; Revit experience a strong asset
  • Deadline driven with a strong work ethic and attention to detail
  • Familiar with WorkSafeBC, CSA S16, & OH&S
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work and contribute individually and as part of a team, being a self-starter
  • Willingness to learn and self-educate
