Battelle is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to support the Energy Resource Division in Research and Development (R&D) programs.
Development of unique process engineering systems involving chemical and separations technologies, as well as other alternative energy and energy resiliency technologies, to meet the needs of a large variety of clients, including the commercial and industrial clients, as well as the Department of Energy, the Department of Defense, and other Government organizations. This includes conceptualization, requirements definition, laboratory work, fabrication, testing, field installation, troubleshooting and other activities related to delivery of process systems ranging from lab to pilot to plant-scale.
Specific Competencies Required for this Position:
High technical quality; ingenuity, creativity; work with client to define technical objectives. Ability to identify key technical risks and plan mitigation approaches in the planning stage.
Reports and Presentations:
Responsible for reports and presentations to client (including technical content and status reporting vs. schedule)
Innovation and intellectual property (IP):
Contribute to existing concepts and develop new IP concepts via technical work; conduct/lead internal research and development projects
Conduct/lead major technical projects w/time and budget constraints with minimal guidance from management; prepare status reports and presentations; instruct others about safety procedures
Regularly train and direct work of other Staff
Help develop business growth and focus area strategies
Formal & informal interaction with clients, including reports and presentations; may be primary POC; strong interpersonal skills, knowledgeable
Prepare/present proposal content, scope clearance and risk assessment forms; follow up as required
THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field
- More than 5 years of experience with Chemical Process Engineering
- Self-motivated, organized, and exhibits leadership
- Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering
- Demonstrated experience with process scale-up and managing vendor interactions for scale-ups
- Experience with energy storage, energy resiliency, or fuel cell technologies
- Experience working the Department of Energy and other Government funding agencies
