GENERAL SUMMARY
Provide modeling and simulation technical support to the product engineering team by generating analyses of automotive systems and subsystems using modeling and simulation tools. Responsible for Finite Element Analysis (FEA) in the design, redesign and development of military vehicles, subassemblies, and detailed parts of considerable technical magnitude. Programs require extensive analysis and interpretation of specifications and standards applicable to vehicles and/or assemblies. Position encompasses the incorporation of customer requirements and specifications, functional design of the vehicle, test, development and introduction into vehicle production. Assures cost effectiveness throughout various program phases. Also provides functional guidance to other departments which provide technical support to achieve overall objectives. This position also requires knowledge and experience of Multi-body Dynamics (MBD) using MSC/ADAMS or similar software, performs other system engineer duties as needed.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conducts FEA simulation and stress analysis involving design, redesign and development of military vehicles or optimization of existing subassemblies, detailed parts and fixtures to meet specifications.
Participates in establishing design objectives and parameters to achieve the most cost effective design approach consistent with end item performance and reliability objectives.
Performs FEA in the areas of linear and non-linear stress, CFD, vehicle crash and roll-over impact, modal and transient dynamics, and composite materials. Conducts fatigue analysis on critical components basing on test data and calculated stresses.
Create physics models of automotive systems for the purpose of predicting performance against requirements. Generate analyses in support of the core engineering team to complete trade studies of architectural solutions. Assist with preparing component and subsystem specifications derived from system requirements.
Develop corporate modeling best practices by developing and documenting repeatable modeling processes. Collaborate with the engineering team to solve technical problems.
EDUCATION & SKILLS
Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering plus 1-5 years of engineering experience in finite element analysis involving vehicle design(chassis, and/or body), test validation and overall development.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with product engineers, vendors and others.
Preferred FEA software: Hyperworks, ABAQUS,nCode, LS-DYNA, MSC/NASTAN, UG/NX/FLOW. Familiar with IGES, STEP, Parasolid, and DXF/DWG files.
1 – 5 years professional experience modeling automotive systems.
Experience modeling automotive systems with standard commercial tools.
Able to simplify complex problems by using available information to generate timely analyses.
Comfortable working collaboratively on a team in a fast-paced environment. Independently able to manage time and prioritize tasks to meet the needs of multiple projects simultaneously. Able to generate clear, detailed technical reports and presentations.
