Perform Design Tasks
It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Design Engineer to create conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs which meet all design requirements, including functionality, assembly/disassembly, weight, cost, and schedule.
The Mechanical Design Engineer will perform preliminary analyses to confirm the integrity of the design prior to final analysis or initiation of task in drafting and communicate hardware requirements, including fits, clearances, wall thickness, materials, coatings, fabrication methods, and quality requirements to analysts, modelers, drafters, and checkers. He/she will review drawings/product definition to insure the design intent is met. Tasks must be performed at a level of detail consistent with the program requirements and should be reviewed and discussed by the appropriate technical lead, Discipline Lead, Process Owner and/or Integrated Product Team Lead ('IPT Lead') or designee prior to distribution. Deliverables are to be consistent with requirements stated in the Agilis Quality Management System (QMS).
Maintain proficiency with design tools
The Mechanical Design Engineer must maintain a strong proficiency, through periodic training and frequent use, with generally accepted Agilis design tools and customer required tools. The Mechanical Design Engineer must also be capable of creating new tools or modifying existing tools, if appropriate. Frequent training is recommended and encouraged as an aid in maintaining proficiency.
Interface with other functional discipline team members
The Mechanical Design Engineer must be able to integrate his/her work with that of other members of the Structures, Heat Transfer/Secondary Flow and Aero & Performance teams. Consideration must be given to all aspects of the design to reach the best overall balanced solution.
Participate in Customer reviews
Active participation in customer reviews at the discretion of the IPT Lead is expected. Preparation and presentation of technical material is included in this responsibility and should be reviewed prior to finalization.
Participate in Mentor efforts
Provide in-house support and mentoring including assisting or instructing others in the use of techniques and tools.
Awareness of overall program plans requirements and expectations
The Mechanical Design Engineer should understand and work to meet the schedule, budget, and deliverable expectations for each assigned task know how that task integrates into the whole program plan.
